Hm as I've understood it there is also some civilian service kind of thing (ie office work)? I'm not sure if it's available to everyone, mayhaps only to people with a certain education level?

Btw, there is a village close to the north / south border (don't remember if it's IN the DMZ or just outside), no one from that village has to go to the military, and nor do anyone they should marry.

you can still probably get out of service depending on the nature of your tattoo. I knew a kid who joined the marines, after a couple of months a DI noticed he had a self-inflicted razor cut scar of a swastika on the outside of his forearm, so they discharged him. He even tried to lie and stay in, by cutting it up and making it look like a box and shit, they still kicked him out..

bein big in something like starcraft is likely to make his service especially hard. Instructors love nothing more than bringing someone down to zero status. Theyll ride his ass nonstop, even if he doesnt do anything to deserve it. My old psychotic korean roomate told me all sorts of stories of abuse during his service.

That kid who cut a swastika in his arm during boot camp was a fucking retard. He was probably trying to get sent home and then panicked when he realized how much shit he was in. And yes, you don't get a "dishonorable" discharge unless you commit a felony and get a general court martial (the big one). He either got failure to adapt which is basically like you were never in, or a general discharge under other than honorable conditions (same discharge you get for doing drugs, getting in trouble repeatedly, etc).

Starcraft is really big for younger people, but not for the people like 50s, 60s etc. And Korean politicians tend not to listen to the younger people because most of the time they're really anti-government.

Moreover, many people still think it as a simple game and not as a sport, which is different from China where the Chinese government actually pay the progamers, accepting E-Sports as their 99th sports.

Anyway, Boxer will serve at the military after like 3 years.
