according to ongamenet, giyom aka grrr is going to leave his current team hexatron because of money problems. Giyom wanted something like $35000++ but their team wasn't willing to provide that much money to a progamer who didn't have any significant accomplishments in the past few years.
he'll be looking for new teams to join. if he wont find a team soon, they say his career will most likely end. =[

Giyom is cool and all, but he needs to start winning stuff if he wants to make so much money, imo :/

And yes, I know he's very good and all, but he hasn't been cutting it well enough to be demanding more money lately.

Grrr... doesn't deserve that much money. I'm glad to see Hexatron isn't willing to put up with shit from players what won't produce.

not that asking for such ludicrous numbers is justified by image, but you gotta take into consideration that image IS a huge part of it, and what you have accomplished as a "forefather" in a game is weighed largely simply because of endorsement potential and that yes, you were the greatest at one point, and yes, that does vouch for something

Wouldn't it be neat if he couldn't find a team, realized the error of his ways, and practiced so hard that he came back and slaughtered everyone (in the leagues, not in real life)? That'd be great.

Yeah, that was pretty good stuff, that quote. They probably shouldn't, Obso. You see, I believe the college already has a name, and probably for a reason. Thus, to change it would require so much paper work that it's killer on everyone. Especially since your suggestion is ludicrous.

Maybe, just maybe..... He might have just been seeing how far he could ride his initial wave of success, and how long he could get money for doing nothing. Now maybe he'll win another OGN and then take it easy for a few years

Sure benzoic, he really fucking sucks now! Jackass..

I mean, seriously, cmon...He still manages to be complimented by Elky and other GREAT foreign players, saying it doesn't matter how much he plays, hes always good. Most of the great korean players also play with him on a regular basis, think before you type kid.

No one is going to say how Grrr sucks and can't win any major leagues and is just a shadow of his former self in public or else they'll be considered BM. Do me a favor and go ask ANY pro gamer what he thinks about ANY other pro gamer you pick. They will all say nothing but compliments about that person regardless if he sucks compared to others.

Boy, I think Grrr... is very popular among the Korean due to his above average looks/skills. He should be paid more.
If I were his sponsor I'd pay him the amount he asks and make him do tons of commercial for me ^^;

the thing is that 35k is the amount that chojja, and other semi-top players get (without prizes and $$ from local events and etc)
but sadly, grrr is no where even near that level

i somewhat doubt grrrr can make it back to top. training hard once for a short time before a tournament ain't enough nowadays. u gotta be training hard for months to get to the level of speed where nada etc are. grrrr's not the type of player who can do that i think. =/

You have to realize luminosity_, that he needs the money to live. If not he had to get a job to get the extra cash, and that way he wouldnt be able to practice as much as he needs to to be able to compete with the best. I guess his sponsors went to far with their offer...

even though he doesn't play anymore/sucks compared to other pros his name still gives a lot of respect/fame to any team he joins and 35000$ a year isn't really a lot. Too bad he doesnt feel like playing any game seriously so far, he'd own up war3 for sure if he really wanted to, he's pure talent

35,000 USD compared to the average Korean income is quite a bit for just a name in a slowly dying hobby.

Moving from AMD to Hexatron, he gets paid a touch more (i think) but because he can't do events for other pc bangs (only with hexatron) it cuts down on a lot of his extra income. He asked for more cash, they upp'd it a bit, but not enough for him thus he left to spread his wings.

His name doesn't carry as much weight as it once did, i beleive they did an event a while ago where 10 ppl were selected and they could pick any pro in the team to play with. Giyom got 0.

Well lots more information other then what is already here but i can't really talk about it

I highly doubt he will be rejoining the team anytime soon, maybe he will get another team, maybe he will do something else, the world is now his oyster but he just gave up the pearl to gain his freedom!~~
My hope is one day stupid people will feel the same pain when they talk, as the pain the rest of us feel when we hear them. Twitter: @Legionnaire_au

does any one thjing grrrr could be vry useful to a team still, that he could improve, train ppl, etc. be valuable? how do they decide who is important to have on a team anyways, they arent all chojjas right

Grrrr... was one of the three biggest gamers of all times. I hope he will be able to get the best again, but seriously he wont even be top 10 pro gamers again. His time is unfortunateley over. But i always will remember him as one of the greatest gamers of his time. And he had a very long time..

And probably the one who started when Bw spread wont get the fame u can earn with it now adays..

Anyway the three gamers who are the most well known and the best and had have the most domination at there times are for me : Grrrr... ( 98-00/01 ) Boxer ( 00-02/3) Nada (02/03 - XX )

lets hope the best for GYIOM patry

35,000 USD compared to the average Korean income is quite a bit for just a name in a slowly dying hobby.

I never thought giyom's career would end before bw is no professional sport in korea anymore and I don't think that now...
giyom will find a team fo sure, but I'm pretty sure he will never come to a level he has been years ago

also you overrate his past achievements! he has been the best OUTSIDE korea for years when noone here knew how strong the koreans really were
when he went to korea he was very good no doubt, but he was never the best

Mensrea is right. Back in the day Grrr was beyond a doubt the best out there. Hell when he was dominating Bnet ladder (Back when it meant something) he actually had to change nicks because people refused to play him, thats when he was The~Insane~Frog. I've met Grrrr before and wish him the best of luck. Anyone who says he doesn't deserve to be there anymore its ignorant. It's like saying a piece of world history no longer belongs in the museum. Grrrr made vast advanced in this game, was monumental player and helped changed the way things are looked at it. Definately a legend of the game.

Congrats to him, even if he doesn't find a team.

It's like Bill Russel returning and asking for Shaq's salary. That's a bit extreme, but you probably get the point.

All who say Grrrr... sucks didnt start with bw 98. And he wasnt the best outside of korea in 98,99,00. He was the one who made bw famous in korea. Or lets say, he wasnt the first foreign gamer to play professional, he was ONLY foreign gamer who was the best player of the world for quite a time. He won some of the biggest events, was the most famous and popluar gamer around the world. Beat theboy in for the early time amazing games..

Grrrr was one of the best gamers of all times.

Today, Giyom is stuggling because the competition level of bw has gotten so freaken high that he isn't cutting it at a high level, but his image alone gets soo much respect in Korea. And yea he's pretty good looking for a Canadian

Yellow is one of greatest of all time. Everyone forgot our Boxer's Shadow T.T Garimto too assholes!.
As for Grrr, He isn't that big a Celeb, he isn't popular that much cuz he doesn't win, 35USD isn't too bad to live off of if you get paid housing. Housing or land costs are what kill you in Korea but otherwise is fine. I think he shoulda took it. Maybe he will go back to Canada and... do whatever before this.

Considering Grrr used to make 60 000$ a year, 35 000$ is a lot lot less

I remember in a interview he said, he made >100000$ only in 99 or was it 00 ? Dunno. He also told back in his best days he was the pro gamer which the most tournament games and he would have even played nearly 50% more tournamentgames then the best other pro gamers then. What ever u know about skill and apm and success, i think Grrrr... belongs to a list with the best gamers of all times..

for those of u that stil dont know, Grrrr was top bw gamer inside and outside korea for a long ass time. give the man some respect. in a few more years u might be saying the same thing about boxer, whose reign was shorter, arguably, altho boxer is still top 3-5 or whatever right now, so not quite the same situation i gues.

If Grr doesn't start getting some results, I doubt he'll get the type of sponsor he's looking for. I mean most of the newer Korean fanbase don't know anything about his old domination and the ones that do are starting to care less.

correct me if i'm wrong but don't programmers sign like 6 month contracts? So he gets $35,000 per 6 months ands tats basically $70,000 over a years time if his contract gets extended for the year

I have a question. How much does Grrr practice compared to the other players? Does he just slack off now and do nothing?

i wonder what it is like for the semi-pro korean players who are very good but lack the skills/name to be great... must be a hard life scraping by, practicing and never finding a team or sponsor.
