The question is, will the gaming authorities have the balls to force these cheaters to retire as soon as possible and turn in their gaming licenses, or, having been involved themselves, will they simply let the cheaters stay on the roster (but make no appearances) and allow them to "retire" throughout the next 12 months along with other innocent progamers in a way such that they try to mask their exits as just normal retirements? It'll be the latter.

... But maybe swirling rumors online, like a close friend that know Savior is in the slammer, will provide a wee bit of confirmation. But who knows if others will be ratted out.

Baseball is actually thriving.

But baseball is over 150 years old and has been part of American culture for a century.

Starcraft is not nearly as entrenched. And at least with steroids, players were cheating to win. Here, players are cheating to lose =[

A (terrible) argument in favor of steroids is that they increased the spectacle of the sport, what with the home run record setting years.

Not saying steroids are a good thing, but they're certainly not as terrible as match-fixing, and as such I don't think the comparison is accurate.

What these guys (allegedly) did is in a whole different league.

Better not bring that up on TL. Maphacking for 4 years puts you in the same boat as abusing 3 games on ICCUP as far as 90% of TL is concerned.

No, it'll probably affect it the way illegal betting and game throwing affected baseball.

Upsets in fixed matches also helps the spectacle. If 1 player wins all the time it's not as fun as when there's upsets. (when oov was unstoppable, most people hated watching him, including me, i now loveoov)

Unless there is any suspicion of it being fixed, which contaminates and ruins any match that is even a slight upset. An upset is an exciting thing but if there is some suspicion that it was planned it completely douses it. It was exciting to watch oov lose because he was so unbeatable: if you had heard that he might lose because he was paid, would you really have any excitement at all?

Yeah, clean upsets are good, but once people suspect of fixing, it deforms spectacle into suspicion, paranoia, and many resentful people.

Disgusting. I sincerely hope that any cover-up attempts fail. If nothing else I hope that cover-up doesn't turn in to "Y'know guys, we can make a shit ton of money working with these illegal gambling sites. Oh and look at that, SC2 is just around the corner. $.$"

this is so sad, yet so predictable; if any replays are leaked we could investigate to check if they didnt rig the games vs players who did not want to cooperate as well

If I learn that everyone was just rigging bets, and that suspicions continue because the cover ups prevented anything from happening, then I'll be off foreign progaming. It just totally ruins the game for me. I want to see the best of the best trying their best, not them trying to lose.

Ah well, at least I can be sure that IcCup is pretty legit as long as everyone is using launcher.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.
