BeSt: "I panicked a little when I got hit by the nuke."
I believed that if I maintained at least one mining base I could win.

- You took the lead 1:0 in this team-kill situation.
▲ I thought Ultimatum was good for Protoss so I took out IFghting Spirit instead, but apparently Ultimatum is really good for Terran. It was to the point where everybody was saying that it's a Terran map so I was worrying, so I'm glad I won. I feel like preparing for the next game will be easy compared to this.

- You were losing your main.
▲ Canata didn't have that many units so he couldn't advance further. I only had my island, as well, but I think I won because the 2 stargates at 7 o'clock survived. I believed that if I could maintain one mining base using my carriers as a screen I would be able to win.

- What did you think after you saw the cloaked Ghost?
▲ It was the first time I saw a cloaked Ghost. I knew nukes were coming but I was in an advantageous position so I wasn't too surprised. But when I panicked a little when I got hit by the nuke at 5 o'clock.

- Isn't this a game where Canata could have won?
▲ I made the wrong decision. I believed that if I simply sniped the comsat stations and fought back with dark templars I could have won. It's definitely a game Canata could have won.

- Did you think you were ahead after you traded bases?
▲ I couldn't think that I was ahead. But I still had buildings so I had some hope left. Having a lot of pylons left helped a lot.

- You greeted Canata after the game.
▲ The original plan was that Coach Go Won Hyuk would come out and the three of us would hug. But maybe Coach Go got embarassed and he wouldn't come out. I wasn't as open as I would be back home but since I wasn't awkward with Canata I was able to greet him like that.

- How will you prepare for the next game?
▲ If I make it through I will be the only SK Telecom player left. Since I did so many team kills I have a lot of pressure related to it, so I'm glad. But my advancement isn't concrete yet so I'll think about that when I get there.

- Any parting words?
▲ Mong helped me practice, and I hope that he will continue to help me a lot. And Canata, if I win I'll buy you lots of good food so I hope you help me out.

Jaedong: "I think it's too early to be celebrating."
I believe that next week's games are really important.

- Your feelings on starting this series with a win?
▲ It's nothing special. It's just a map that I'm so confident on, and I have a lot of practice against Zerg so I wasn't too worried. When I was practicing I just thought about the build a little bit, so I'm glad I won. Next week's games are important so I'm not too happy about today's game.

- People are saying that your vs Zerg has been wavering recently.
▲ I wasn't really nervous. As a matter of fact, since I'm most comfortable playing against Zerg, my confidence did not waver a bit. I recently lost some games making mistakes I usually don't make during practice, but I'm human too so I think I'm allowed to lose a few games (laughs) (TL note: So modest, Jaedong!). I don't think it's a big problem so I'm not worrying about it.

- Flash, who you play tomorrow, won against a Zerg today.
▲ I was watching Flash's game while I was setting up, and he was playing well. He won strongly in the mid-late game so I was thinking he was playing well, and ZerO is a good player against Terran but he got destroyed so I think I will have to focus as well.

- Is your preparation for tomorrow's game going well?
▲ My plan is to prepare without letting it weigh me down. All the games that have gotten a lot of attention in the past I never really looked at it with too much importance. That's why I'm not going to let it get to me, and try to make the energy I have during my practice games manifest itself during the real game.

- In your history versus Flash (Lee Ssang Rok), you've lost all the bo3s but won all the bo5s.
▲ If you look at just the stats, sure, but I think it's all the same. I don't think there's any meaning behind it, and I think it just means that I'm strong in a bo5.

- Ever since you became a progamer it's the first time you've achieved 100 wins in 1 year.
▲ I'm very proud. I felt like I played a lot of games in 2009, but the fact that I can look back and confirm my stats like that makes me proud, and I felt like I tried really hard in 2009. I even got greedy enough to want to continue doing what I've been doing into 2010 and continue posting good stats.

- Any parting words?
▲ Although I won today's game, I think it's too early to be celebrating. Same with tomorrow's game; whether I win or lose it doesn't affect me too much. I believe that next weeks' games are the real games, so I will continue doing my best next week as well and post good results in my individual leagues.

JangBi: "The feeling of starting ahead gives me some peace of mind."
It's a strategy I had confidence in bringing out.

- Your feelings on getting the first win?
▲ Winning the first game in the ro16 gives me the feeling of starting ahead gives me some peace of mind. If it was a bo5 I wouldn't feel any happier but the ro16 is bo3 so it gives me some peace of mind.

- Did you have any idea your opponent would have the same plans as you?
▲ No matter what my opponent did I was planning on doing this strategy. When I used it during practice it seemed pretty good. I asked MBCGame's Jaehoon if it was okay to use this build, and when I called him he said I can use it as much as I want.

- Did you think you would win no matter what if you used this build?
▲ Yes. It's a strategy I had confidence in bringing out.

- Is this a build you chose because your opponent was a newcomer?
▲ I was going to play safe but since my opponent was a newcomer he might have prepared a certain build which would have put me at a disadvantage. That's why I prepared such build myself. If I won the 1st game, I could play the 2nd and 3rd game more standard. Besides, I haven't done any trick plays recently. Even my underclassmen warned me that I always do the same thing, so I thought I'd mix it up a bit.

- You are posting good results in the individual leagues.
▲ I'm doing well in the proleagues now, as well. I'm 2-1 in the 2nd round, isn't that a good start? (laughs) There's still a long time until the 5th round so I just have to do well from now on. Personally, I'm looking forward to the Winner's League. Aside from the confidence that I'll do well, I strangely enjoy the games regardless of whether I win or lose.

- Your personality is becoming more lively.
▲ I was on a big losing streak but now I'm getting winning streaks. I don't know when I'll lose again, but I think I have to ride this win streak wave out and return to my previously lively form.

- It's said that you win if oDin comes along with you.
▲ That must be what oDin tells everybody (laughs). Honestly, usually during individual league games the coaches usually come, but I'm very thankful that a fellow player comes as well. Before, when there weren't so many leagues, it wasn't weird for a player to come along, but nowadays if one player shows up the fans start saying things like 'Did he become a coach?.' oDin is still a player (laughs).

- Any parting words?
▲ I'd like to thank Jaehoon and Pure who helped me practice, and I'd also like to thank Brave, ASuka-Jr, Stork, and M18M. I'm very friendly with Jaehoon so we usually help each other. I'm also looking forward to something back home. firebathero promised that he would buy me pigs feet and wrapped kimchi (TL's note: mmmmmmmm delicious), but he said he would buy it when oDin and I weren't around and leave left overs (TL's note: lol fbh). But if he does that there won't be any food left, so I hope he orders when oDin and I leave the stadium for back home.

Flash: "I put more focus on tomorrow's Lee Ssang Rok." (Thanks to Doriath and Hinanawi for finding this for me! ... it was hiding!)
My ability to play wasn't good but the game was comfortable.

- Your feelings on winning the first game of the series?
▲ I won the first game but my ability to play was the worst. The prep room was so cold that my fingers weren't in their best condition (TL note: see photo LoL). I was unhappy even after I won.

- Is your finger condition the reason you got caught up in ZerO's pace in the mid-late game?
▲ I'm disappointed that the game I was ahead in became that way. I still don't know how I won. I wish the prep room was a little warmer.

- It's being said that Ultimatum is a Terran map.
▲ I think it's really good when playing versus Zerg. I had to win today's game to play tomorrow's games more comfortably so I practiced hard. I guessed what build my opponent was going to use from the very beginning and then confirmed it with a scan so the game was comfortable. My ability to play wasn't that good but the game was comfortable. I was so far ahead that I didn't think I was going to lose despite my fingers not moving. But I couldn't irradiate very well (laughs).

- Tomorrow is Lee Ssang Rok (game vs Jaedong).
▲ I put my focus on tomorrow's game when I was practicing. ZerO is a good player but Ultimatum favors Terran so I practiced more on Fighting Spirit, which I'm playing on tomorrow. I think I will be able to play better tomorrow.

- Historically, Flash has won bo3 Lee Ssang Roks, and Jaedong has won bo5 Lee Ssang Roks.
▲ Those stats are over a year old. My skill level is different from then. I haven't played Jaedong recently so I don't know how good he is. I can't wait to play him. I watched him play against RuBy a couple of days ago and Jaedong seemed to play well. It's going to be a close game.

- Jaedong achieved 100 wins in 2009.
▲ It means that Jaedong is good in every event. But I'm not jealous of that achievement. I just want to do the best in my current situation.

- Any parting words?
▲ My fans seem to be worried because of my condition. I have games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and my condition is good. You don't have to worry. My teeth (?) isn't good so I get a lot of porridge and attention. I think that's why I did well. I think my condition is better than the fans fear it to be so I don't think it will affect my game too much.

TL note: I translated the Flash interview last (it wasn't on the main interview page on Fomos), and his take on his game versus ZerO was completely different from what Jaedong seemed to have said in his own interview. I went back and checked Jaedong's interview to make sure I didn't miss some contextual modifiers and mis-translate, but that wasn't the case. Interesting!

Jaehoon is helping both Stork and Jangbi with strats? Nice.

Jaedong points out that zero was "destroyed" by flash.

I think Best is being modest when he says he had any real chance of losing that game other than a legendary choke.

A more literal translation would be 'Flash's mid and late game overwhelmed ZerO,' and that 'ZerO got squeezed to death' by Flash. I just said he got destroyed. >_>

He is talking about 100 wins in a year by itself (ie starleagues, PL etc)

The Reach JD Flash thing is 100 victories in PL.

But Reach reached 100 wins in PL through 2v2 unlike pure 1v1 that JD and Flash did..

Wow about tomorrow's game:

JD is like "yeah well I'll practice and try to do well"
Flash "MSL has imba maps for me and JD>Zero so I prepared more for tomorrow"

JD seriously sounds like someone who has achieved what he wanted and isn't "afraid" to lose anymore.

This tends to happen when your PL team is more successful and you get further in individual leagues . Plus GOM doesn't count so that hurts flash.

No, they don’t count the games in playoffs too, only regular games in Proleague taken into account.

Jaedong will decline in 2010 imo. He's sounding more and more burned out in his interviews. His skill has begun to waver and his win % is already slipping.

I don't want him to do poorly, but you have to consider that he's won two OSLs back to back and has been at the peak of the game for a long time. What else is left to accomplish except more medals than nada? I think he'll continue to play, just like all the old greats who try to retain the feeling of dominance despite not being hungry enough to practice as hard anymore, but he'll get outshined by the new school -- effort, in particular.

I just really really disagree and dont see this at all. Look at the bloody consistancy he has, it's fucking insane, and anyone who dont belive he isnt practicing more than pretty much anyone for pretty much anything is dilusional.
The time when he drops his urge to rock the SC world, he will quit straight up, unless he is completely bound by a contract. He's a smart and very dedicated person, I really doubt he would do something halfassed.

Tomorrows games will be awesome nonetheless and cheers for the interviews! =)

You're just ignorant.
Please look at JD’s statistics before you write something on the forum.
This year is the most successful in JD’s career.

This would have so much more credence if he had not gone 15-2 in his last 17 games.

Jaehoon looks like the new Much. Poor guy, I think he just gets nervous and never shows how smart he actually is and instead gives up those FBH vs. Jaehoon type games where its so bad its awesome.

Much thanks for the translation, can't wait for the Flash vs Jd match, since they both seem to be in amazing shape.

I love how friendly Best is with Canata: "I'll buy you lots of good food if I win" lol

Yeah, Jaedong continues to play amazingly well. The biggest difference between his gameplay now and a year ago is that other players have advanced more than he has because of how far ahead he was.

According to TLPD, Jaedong's 2009 winrate is 116-50 (69.9%) right now, but that's because we include GOM and WCG. Take those out and Jaedong is 101-39, which is over a 72% winrate for the year. This is the best Jaedong's ever done by Kespa standards.

Compared to his 2008 TLPD score of 87-38(69.6%), which is actually much better than his 2008 Kespa run, again excluding Gom and WCG, which is 69-35(66.3%).

If you want to include GSI (which I would, personally, but that's a lil Flash bias shining through!) to TLPD he's 91-40 at 69.5% (Small difference!)

His 2007 TLPD is 57-31(64.8%), with a Kespa winrate at 57-29(66%) -- the only change being the 2-0 loss to July at WCG.

So yeah, 2009 SO FAR has been his best year ever. That could change, though, depending on the games vs Flash and Firefist and, of course, proleague. At the very least he's shattered his games won.

Whoever said Jaedong is fizzling has no idea what they're talking about. He's done nothing but get better every year.

Even though I'm a Jaedong fan, this is a very very close game, with Flash being ahead slightly.

I've always always said Flash needs to drop that mechanical crap and stick to bread and butter 1 rax FE M+M. Even Jaedong has had problems with it in the past.

Now that Flash has reverted back to his textbook winning methods, I fear for Jaedong.

Flash is now the unstoppable object colliding with an immovable Jaedong. This is epic.

Look, I don't want to be a dick, I understand it's your pet word and everything, but "Flashtard" will never, and I mean never catch-on and frankly it makes me cringe everytime I read it.

How is dissing Jaedong indicative of being a flashtard?

You don't have to be a Flash fan to be sick and tired of one player winning everything all the time.

I respect Jaedong and I can tell he works really hard, but I really would like to see someone else take the title for a change. It seems like it's been forever since a Terran won an individual league aside from GOM. Though anything would satisfy me as long as we don't see all ZvZ semifinals or even a ZvZ final again.

It really feels like every Protoss player who has an important match asks advice from Jaehoon or practices with him. He's thanked in interviews so often.

Edit: Oh, and thanks for translating mrmin!

I think he'll continue to play, just like all the old greats who try to retain the feeling of dominance despite not being hungry enough to practice as hard anymore, but he'll get outshined by the new school -- effort, in particular.

flashtards, not cool

He didn't say anything about Flash in that quote. You have a serious persecution complex.

lol????

Maybe something was lost in translation, but that sounded an awful lot like "Please don't try very hard in the next two games". I'm sure it's just a joke though, BeSt is perfectly capable of beating Canata straight-up...

nope, in fact it'd be great if you stopped posting altogether
