recently i've realized that i've kind of stopped getting new music to listen to so ...been stuck with the same stuff for a while. not that i don't like them anymore but you know it's nice to have some new music!
a few years back in high school and whatever i used to be totally obsessed with looking up the latest bands and whatever ALL the time and i quickly gathered thousands of mp3s haha so yeah i kinda miss that feeling. listening to the music i loved could really reflect my emotions or whatever.. haha.
is it just me growing up and becoming jaded or are most new bands pretty crappy
anyway i'm mainly a rock and electronica listener, you can get a rough idea of what i listen to from my Last.FM page at
for 'rock' i actually listen to a wide variety of this genre...e.g. metal and 'emo' (ok not so much emo nowadays i think lol), hardcore, indie, weird experimental stuff are all good to me.
electronica is mostly trance and prog house/ trance ,not so much drum'n'bass and techno.
hope you guys can give me some new music/artists to obsess over :D:D :D:D
Alf, have you tried out Crystal Castles? I saw them randomly at Glastonbury 2008, and they make some pretty damn nice electronica.
You can check out my all-time listened list, it's filled with too many different genres, but you can pick pretty much anything from there and it should be good
you've probably already heard these recommendations since theyre somewhat mainstream, but just in case you've missed one...

<3 trip hop !!! thats pretty much a cool list, I will add Ian Brown maybe and even Gorillaz, its never late to start listening to these guys, fuck their mainstream stuff
For your house, trance and electro listening pleasure, I recommend to you the mixes of Destruction of Sound, which you can listen to and download at http://www.dosmix.com. I am not sure about artists though.
Currently I am listening to the new Mos Def album 'The Ecstatic' and although it is neither rock nor electro, it has quite some influences from these genres. Don't know if you would like it but you should check it out.

Actually, Gorillaz is a damn good recommendation. Probably one of the favourite bands I've rediscoved in the last year or so. The whole story behind them are awesome too. Try to see if you can download their Demon Days Live DVD from somewhere. Damon Albarn is awesome. Also, if you're in the mood for some classic alternative rock, pick up a Supergrass album. Watching Hot Fuzz turned me onto them again, and they really are quite fun (get Caught by the fuzz from them if you can).

I've always considered Gorillaz a Music Project rather than a band. And Demon Days is an amazing achievement

Have you heard the Monkey: Journey to the West soundtrack yet? Damon Albarn was asked to compose the complete musical score for a Chinese opera, while Jamie Hewlett did the set, costumes, etc. I haven't seen the whole opera, only snippets, but the music is both bizarre and amazing. Can't believe that Albarn can compose something so different.
gorillaz is somewhat brilliant at times but, at least for me, doenst have lasting appeal something about its lack of coherence and casualness .. almost like a novelty
godspeed you! black emperor is also a strong recommendation also consider The Field and for some prog rock, king crimson
but really, i firmly believe the best music in the world inevitably is classical perhaps its worthwhile that you start to warm your ears to some of these some rachmaninoff, chopin, messiaen, bruckner in your diet?
