Interpolation refers to the algorithm used when you scale a picture to a larger size, which creates the new pixels through some combination of the data from old ones. This works with a reasonably realistic image, but when you're doing pixel art all you get is blurred edges; the individual pixels are still obvious but very poorly defined. Just zoom in on your original hydra and compare it to the scaled up one, it's much cleaner. Furthermore jpeg compression isn't ideal for pixel art; the format's meant more for photos and the like, which have a huge range of colours and are relatively high resolution. When you have a low-colour, low-resolution image like pixel art, the compression is inefficient and more importantly creates very obvious artifacts. | ||
