Good job though, smoking cigs is probably one the stupidest choices you could possibly make.

+ Show Spoiler + Also, I don't know much about these, but for those people who are still smoking and want to stop, have you heard of these? http://www.blucigs.com/ I don't know if they're any good, but the idea sounds interesting and the fact that you can slowly wean yourself off of nicotine might help you quit. Good luck! (not endorsing these, just heard about them)

This works according to the following mechanisms, which you can use to your advantage. You can use this principle for pretty much any behavior you want to change. Serious symptoms (fearful) ------> Easy to imagine ------> Positive framing: More change This means that referring to cancer sticks is not effective in the first place, which is why it is easy for you to joke about it. Much more effective is saying 'If I stop smoking I will feel better'. Trivial symptoms (not fearful) --------> Easy to imagine -------> Negative framing: More change Here the opposite is true: Non fearful symptoms which are easy to imagine due to your own health-related behavior are more effective at changing behavior when negatively framed. The more you know!

I always hated cigarettes, but because of smoking my grandfather can never speak again. It's obviously better that he didn't die... But I miss talking to him, and I always feel bad when he tries to talk but I can't understand him... ;-;

If memory of high school health class serves me correctly it's behind only speed in terms of pure physical addictiveness. How you can even quantify the level of physical addition is unknown to me. I'd assume some sort of rat study. Congratulations on quitting, double congratulations on convincing your coworkers to quit, and also hooray for people who never started smoking in the first place! I dunno, you can get addicted to meth after just one try - and i've definately tried more then one cigarrette and i'm not addicted. different people have different tolerances i spose.

The Melanoma is not related to smoking at all, it just made me realize that no matter what age you are you can have serious health problems.
