When you start, it's horrible until you've had a handful and get used to it...then it's alright...then it's good and horrible at the same time, then it's just meh and horrible. Basically...it's only good in your head. When you're smoking, it's a whatever thing (except in those rare moments where you're immensely stressed out or something). You only notice when you're not smoking. Aside from that, you cough all the time, your stamina goes to shit, your wallet gets that much lighter, your mouth always tastes like shit, etc.

Congratulations on quitting, I've seen my friends try, but they always fail. I'll try to help more next time. Hope I can turn them around like you did.

I've been a smoker since I was 16 (10 years now) and I'm also thinking about quitting, but I'm not quite there yet. I'm not getting younger and health is slowly starting to become an issue, so quitting before I turn 30 is my absolute deadline. The only problem is that health is my only reason to quit, I really enjoy smoking and doubt that my feelings about that will ever change. The little money I spend every month is nothing compared to the enjoyment I get, so that's no argument at all. And people who say smoking tastes like shit, well ok, some people don't like beer or coffee or carrots or whatever, I guess that's the same thing? Although I really don't understand how someone could not like smoking. I agree though that some brands taste like shit (I roll cigs myself, no packs). Sometimes I just get slightly annoyed by ignorant comments like "How can you even smoke, it's so disgusting?!". You only notice when you're not smoking. I couldn't disagree more with this statement. But I'm not here to advertise smoking, so I'll leave it at that. But yes, quitting is certainly the right decision, considering health. So once again, props for that!

That's just a difference in taste, then. I think cigarettes taste disgusting...though I have had a few hand-rolled ones that were good. Somehow I never really got into that whole thing, though. Always went for Marlboros or Camels. In any case, for me, I just feel normal; smoking is just part of my daily routine. After I eat, I smoke. After a couple games of BW, I smoke. Before I sleep, I smoke, etc. There, I barely notice it. Like I said before, aside from those rare (for me) instances where something is stressing you out, or you just received a shock, I don't so much get cravings for cigs...I just pull one out and go smoke it. I don't really feel the craving until I try to quit...and then it's fucking overwhelming.

My next quit will be after Midsummer's Eve. I have been planning on quitting again for some time, but Midsummer's Eve is the highlight of my year, the best party I know, and one thing I can't do without when I party is smoke. New Year's have screwed up my quitting twice. But, if I quit right after midsummer's, I will have another 6 months to get my shit together before the next new years, and maybe this time I'll be strong enough not to keep smoking after the clock hits 12. I'm rooting for you though, and your friends. I hope you'll have better discipline.

Just smoke when you drink or something like that. That's infinitely better than smoking at a party, then continuing for a while, then quitting, then starting up again six months later, and repeating. If you HAVE to smoke at those two parties, at least don't do so outside of them.
