I just uninstalled Starcraft o_o

I am not one to quit, I never am. But I cant take constant losses. Once in a while, like I have 1 win 1 loss, 1 win, 1 loss, thats ok. I can take it, cuz atleast I know im decent enough win. But constantly loosing all the time...

My first season: 1-70 (wins to losses)
second season: 0-20 ish
this season: 5-8 (my wins were against zergs who went 1 base the entire game >.>, and I still made stupid mistakes like Psi locking myself for 1 minute).

Come to think of it, these past few months have been a lot about realizations. Maybe History class is getting to me (b/c I can see changes in myself from being frustrated too much)

Some things Iv realized:

- BUILD ORDERS ONLY ARE HORRIBLE.
- Before I learned my first build order, I was already figuring things out, like you should only put 3 workers on gas (I called it my gas belt, cuz it looked like a conveyor belt)
- These things I do (aka PSI LOCKING, NOT USING MY RESOURCES) arent mistakes, because its not like I am decent, and a mistake is when someone who usually doesn ok or good does something really awkward and losses.
- SC requires a lot of practice time, and I cant put that in (not even like 3 hours a day constant iCCup)
- Iv read up on WAY too many building lists...

Yeah, even though I might be improving a tiny bit each day, I just think I am going a little stale, and Im gonna take the idea mentioned in some other entry and take a break.

I want to be able to concentrate on just strategy, not trying to follow some build list based on food. I'll actually be glad if I end up being a 50 apm player again that forgot EVERY BUILD (except maybe just 2 openers). Finally, I just want to enjoy the game again, instead of forcing myself to try to become better, and then loosing every game I play.

Besides my exams are coming up so... yeah.

That doesnt meean I wont be watching VODS.. but only for entertaintment... I am finding it hard to analyze their play because I am too stuck on build orders regarding food.

Ugh... I hope I dont regret this...
EDIT: im only gonna watch a VOD once in a while, so I can forget builds and sht

take it easy
improving slightly over a long period of time is no bad thing, if the losses get to you just chill out, exit bw for a few hours/days and start with fresh courage

oh and read up on strategy

Yup you will be back dw about it. I have literally destroyed sc cds and I still play. You are probably just not improving b/c you don't understand basic sc concepts yet or you just aren't that passionate about it. Also, you don't need to play 3 hours a day, 1 hour a day is plenty -.- Hell, you can play like 5 hours a week and probably improve.

Install sc again and just take a break.

Also when improving, try joining a clan/team where you can get people to teach you stuff, that helps.

3 Seasons and your complaining? I was D- for like the last 4 seasons of PGTour and it took me 4 seasons to get to C on ICCup (I'm B- now so it's possible to improve).

Don't focus to much on build orders, learn a standard build order for each mu to start off (like 2 gate dragoon for PvT) and work on getting your expansion down, good macro, good probe production, not getting supply blocked. Don't try reavers or anything until you can get the very basics down because any lead you get with a reaver will be negated by the fact that you can't macro yet.

Another thing, learn how to play FE PvZ first but as you get better (around C/C+ range) learn some 1 gate tech builds for maps that it is difficult to FE on like Python because it's something every protoss player should know to add variety to their play and the ability to play all maps. It's a problem with a lot of newer players that came in during the FE era of BW (post Bisu vs Savior) because Zergs don't know how to play properly vs 1 gate tech and protoss players don't know how the play that style.

Also time isn't a huge factor, if you have enough time to play 2-3 games a day and watch a couple replays you should improve.

I'm just surprised that you were able to play that many games... I usually quit SC after 2-3 losses in a row. Anyways, I'm thinking that your mindset has just been tainted. If losing almost every game happens, then you go into the next game with the mindset that you are going to lose. Just watch some reps, learn something new, learn a trick, a new build order, anything. Then go into the next game saying, check what I learned, I'ma own this guy. Pretend you're a progamer.

Yeah, this. Take a break when it's not fun anymore, come back when it is. Get outside and throw a frisbee or something and own your finals.
May the BeSt man win.

wow, guys. I thought I was going to get some bashing, but u guys are soo.... wats the word.. able to cheer ppl up sometimes. TL.net rocks!

and seriously, I want to get better, I want to be really good, cuz I have the potential... its just that Iv been tainted like Archaic said.. except its much worse. I always go like: alright im gonna win this time! and i was supposed to use the thing i leanred from the previous loss... but something fucks up and I end up loosing.. so yeah no sc...

i have a hard time dealing with constant losses too. my solution has been finding people on TL to play with or playing with random friends - it makes the game a lot more fun, and gives you goals to look forward to when practicing :D

Most important is to to have fun. Don't treat it like its your job - you won't become a progamer anyway.

I've often found that taking an extended break from SC causes you to come back with enhanced skills for some reason. Stop for a bit and to other things.

I took a 3 year break and I just recently came back. Of course the time I was away from BW, I wasn't aware of iCCuP. Well I started up BW again on May 3rd and found out about TL and iCCuP. I was a casual Protoss player for last 10 years(I never played 1v1, just fucked around). Well I've always liked Zerg better, but I never took the time to learn. So I figured this would be the best time to learn Z, so I started playing iCCuP(I got my ass handed to me for the first week or so).

I played 2-5 games a day and forced myself to play uncomfortably fast(Using hotkeys that I wasn't comfortable with and set my mouse speed to the 2nd highest setting). I learned standard build orders/counters for every MU. Between FPVODS, replays, TL Guides, and iCCuP, I was able to hit C- in less than a month(My APM also went from 90ish to 170-190 on average).

You don't need to play 3 hours a day to understand the game! I enjoyed playing regardless if I win or not and when I do lose, I watch the replay and try to correct my mistakes(I've lost several ZvP's because of my horrible scouting/allowing them to get a 3rd)! Of course my mechanics are still weak and I need much better macro/micro, but you'll get better with practice!

Don't give up!

Only in the beginning is it painful. My first season was D-, second was D, and this season I took two accounts to D+ (with winning records, woot!). You'll notice you'll get better over time.

Also your problems are easily addressable. I have a BIG problem with my macro, so every game I repeat to myself "Don't forget to macro". Just keep reminding yourself of what you need to do, and in time it will come naturally.
I know where my towel is.

You never know.

Also, you don't need to uninstall it, maybe looking at it on your desktop will make you want to play again lol.

I think it's important to get a harmonious mixture of both strategic thinking as well as mechanical gameplay when trying to get better at sc. You can look at tons of vods, but vods only show one path that the game went down. You can't always figure out why a pro gamer didn't do a certain thing just by looking at their game play. In fact, you probably won't catch a few key decision timings in the game unless you have the game experience to back it up.

Say you're trying to make a build, you have to have an idea of what your opponent will have around certain key timings to plan out your build accordingly. Just by watching vods, you can learn a few tricks here and there, but overall you won't be able to greatly expand your own strategic thinking until you bring that mentality to an actual game. If you actively seek out weak points in your opponent's gameplay and look for opportunities for attacking, it'll expand your strategic thinking much faster. At the same time, without the mechanics to back it up, you don't have room for strategic thinking. If your army's going to get beaten down no matter how you flank or maneuver around, strategy's useless.

I think the best way is just to stop letting the losses get to you. If you can deal with them and work on the big overall picture instead, it'll allow you to improve much more steadily.

I haven't read anything, but I gaurentee that you will be hacking away @ Sc again.

Unless you quit out of boredom, you're pretty much a slave to SC if it's already drawn you in to over 250+ games. And 1-70? Jesus, you have preserverence.
Multiply your efforts.
