I think there's a few people who play mods around here. So, this may be of interest to you.
A little preview video I made a week or so ago for my last SC mod. It'll be my first actually finished project in my ten years of modding.
Apologies in advance for being forced to use a camcorder. I used to use growler guncam but recently it's started lagging like a bastard and nothing else performs decently, either. I like to think my camera handling isn't too bad, though. Bearable.
This video shows some incomplete units for my computer-only replacement of the Zerg, called Armageddon; it is designed to challenge a team of 7 players in a bloody battle to the death. Of course, there isn't 7 people who play mods out there, so I've also beefed up the Terran and Protoss AI to stand by your side.
Unfortunately because of the limitations of Starcraft modding, I was forced to cannibalize the entire zerg race (along with the Installation and Space tilesets) to free up resources for Armageddon.
I do not plan to make Armageddon playable. However, I may create a sandbox map.

AO is more or less more of a technical demonstration and a proof of concept than a real conversion. It takes, and surpasses, the limits of Starcraft. You might recall the Valkyrie and its innate ability to devour the weapon sprite limit... yeah, I had a fellow make a plugin that dramatically raises those limits, allowing literally thousands of projectiles to be flying around.
If by cheap you mean ridiculously powerful; yes, that's the idea. Units like Mal`Ash and Zeus will show up around an hour or a little less into the game. Most of them have specific counters to them; ie, scouts are actually useful for a change because of their durability, and they can easily destroy Purgatories. Some of the guys though really do demand you and your team mates to work together to fight.
Cheap as far as graphics; yeah. Sc's palette actually totally destroys the graphics themselves, so color schemes are hard to get that look any good. Most of the monsters are from d1, d2, or an infinity engine game like Baldur's Gate. The rest I generally modeled myself.
This video mostly shows the high-end units; there's a ton of little guys as well.
OMG this is amazing. Up until now the best mod i've seen added the gunship and advanced scout rofl. But no this is really great, i will download this as soon as you release it.
