My current computer is old and shitty and just not working great. The hd is dying, ram is not working optimally, etc etc.
Pretty much, I'm looking to buy a new computer.
My requirements are very basic. I want to be able to play SC2. I'll probably play some other games, but I don't need it to be a very intense system.
I'd rather buy a pre-made rig than build it myself. I'd be more than happy to go through Dell or something, if I can get a good deal.
I'm on a pretty small budget here, and just looking for ideas.
I do NOT need a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers/headphones etc. I just need a rig with decent graphics/sound/memory. I don't need a large hard drive either, as I can store everything on an external.
I don't really know much more besides this. If anyone could maybe link to some computers and tell me how well they'd perform for their cost it'd be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot TL power!~

Can you provide an actual $$$ number instead of just saying "a pretty small budget." I would guess that's around $700-800? I think that's the minimum you can spend and get a pre-made desktop good enough to run SC2. (I really haven't been following SC2 development a ton so if someone knows if Blizz has announced general requirements please chime in.)
The only specs that really matter are the video card since most desktops that aren't specifically designated as "gaming" just use integrated graphics, and "gaming" desktops that have some mid-range graphics card are usually a bit more expensive than if you built it yourself, but it's obviously much easier and more convenient. Having a decent processor is needed too.

I was hoping to keep it less than that. Would it be possible to do for $500?

Well just checked blizzard's site and all they have is:
"What are the system requirements for StarCraft II? We’ll have more details on specific system requirements closer to the release date."
Which is BS because I'm sure they have a ballpark idea (I mean the beta is coming out within a few months right?) but w/e. My guess is it will be pretty easy to run on any computer.

If you really wanted to save money then building a rig yourself really helps. I think Intel Core 2 Duo E7200, ATI Radeon HD3850, and 2GB ram is definitely adequate, maybe you can go even lower than that.

Yea I honestly think that'll be enough, although you'll probably have to shop around and maybe look into buying refurbished or something (Anyone know if that's a good idea or not?). I guess you could just hold off on buying a new computer until they release what the requirements will be.
fyi: I don't think it's even possible to buy a pre-made, new, desktop that comes with an independent graphics card for $500, but you may be able to get away with an integrated graphics chipset that comes with the motherboard.

Integrated graphics card never live beyond a year or two. Heck, my laptop can't even play maplestory.

Take a look at the video card, Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE? That is absolutely awful. Why have 4GB & a quad-core when you're running a card like that? Ripoff.

I recently bought:
E8400 Intel Core 2 duo Processor (3Ghz) This chip is famous for being a great overclocker if I need it 8 gigs of of fast ram 400 gig HD CD/DVD RW Standard non-fancy motherboard No video card Windows XP (woot, I hate Vista so this is a bonus for me)
For $485 including ALL shipping costs and/or taxes. We are talking final, total cost to me.
I will buy a nice video card off newegg when SC2 comes out and I will be set. (I should be set for D3 as well)

That's fine as long as you rember to get a mobo with intregarted graphics on it and a pciex16 slot

Should try dell.com outlets. Refurbished/canceled orders etc sold at cheaper prices. If you look hard and at the right time you can get some awesome deals. A Genuine OS disk costs way too much. >_> Of course you can always do the favorable choice of you know.....

I do have an OS disk so thats no worry.

Your best bet is to buy a crappy gaming computer from a store or something and then save up for a 9600gt or 4830 something that can run on a crappy psu no worries.

Just constantly check up on slickdeals.net I was looking for a new comp and managed to find a dell vostro 200 with 22in LCD monitor for $576 shipped. Specs were intel core 2 duo 2.5ghz 3 gig ram 250gb hd crappy integrated graphics card. I plan on upgrading the card once sc2 comes out but im sure you can find even better deals if you don't need a monitor. Hell, I could have sold the monitor for probably around $250+ and had the comp for around $326, but I was using a crappy crt monitor so I needed a replacement.
