So.. As i'm stitting, staying up for my 5 am flight I have to wonder, Is it better to get at least a little bit of sleep (2-3 hours) or just none at all? Assuming the next day you would go to sleep around 11 or 12ish.
Poll: To sleep or not to sleep? (Vote): Sleep 2-3 hours (Vote): Just pull a double day

sleep a bit for now, then some on the plane?
|
either one you choose, be sure to take a shower before you head out... it's sooo refreshing

Yeah I'd say it depends on how long your flight will be. Long flight = Just stay up and sleep on the plane That is, if you're someone who can sleep on a plane.

if you do nap... make sure you wake up

I really recommend you not sleeping less than 4 hours, you won't be able to get up especially at night when your body is telling to you to fall asleep. No sleep is better than sleep in this case
|
I am sure sleeping even 2-3 hours is better then not sleeping at all. I feel alot better when I used to sleep 2-3 hours before work rather then not at all.

What I meant was getting less 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, you'll feel less tired than if you don't sleep at all

In the last few months I have had many nights with less than 4 hours of sleep including 0 hours of sleep and I can say without a doubt I feel less tired with a bit of sleep then with none.

Well seeing as how it takes you only about an hour to hit REM sleep, it's definitely worth it to sleep 2-3 hours.
|
usually if I sleep for just 2 hours im much more tired if I have to wake up than I wouldve been if I had just stayed up
|
I think its harder to wake up, but if I do wake up, the rest of the day is smoother.
|
Everyone is different, some people absolutely need a minimum amount of sleep, other people just need a multiple of an REM cycle and then catch up later.
|
depends on the person but usually 3 hr entails a full 1 sleep cycle so it'll be pretty good for u to get 3 hr of sleep

I always have a headache after short nap... 7h required or none at all ~.^

IMO it comes down to whether you can wake up for the flight. If you can make sure that you get up, then by all means sleep.

Whenever I decided to take a short sleep i always wake up late and can not function and it's impossible to get out of bed. I am always late because of this.
Pulling an all nighter will fix this 90% of the time and allow me to sleep at a regular time and fix my circadian rhythm. But it's just hard to do one of these (especially when you are by yourself). You need social interaction to achieve it easier. And it always feels so weird in the morning. Like there is some deep dark secret you have and everyone is totally oblivious and thinks you're crazy or something.
|
I find that almost all the time, sleeping only 2-3 hours leaves me dazed and pretty slow, whereas if I pull a double day, I can usually stay functional till at least the evening of the second day.

That's bullshit, a little sleep is always better than nothing. And I sleep from 2 to 5 am all the time, I've only slept through the alarm twice when I had anincredibly stressful day before that (~16 hours away from home at university+travelling).

if you're gonna nap, and then wake up all of a sudden you'll be tired...
