Hi TL!
I started playing Fallout 3 just to show it to a friend what it's like (I tried it one time before but didn't like it very much) but this time I kept on playing and suddenly I'm thinking like "meh, I bet the time is like 1 am or something now I gotta go to bed", and then I look at the computer clock and it's fucking 5.30 am OMG!!! I didn't go to school, just slept all day lol.
It was a long time since I played a game that was that fun
I'll play some more right now!

Yeah it's a good game, I don't have it but I played it a friends quite a lot. I recommend finding Lincoln's Repeater, it's a pretty good rifle.
|
the best weapon in the game is the lasergun you get from that soldier in that boatsettlement
|
|
It was a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I never bothered finishing the storyline. It just got too boring after a while -_-

The best weapon in the game is the alien zapper, no contest.

Buggy as hell on Vista 64. And no, it's not Vista's fault, since other games work perfectly. Damnit.
|
It seems like a taste issue because I have spoken to an equal amount of very happy and very disappointed people in regards to Fallout 3.

i dont know i wasnt that much into it.... i was doing the main quest but its not even that fun.
i wanna go around and explore but its really dangerous. kinda gay game

Plasma Rifle + energy weapons 100, it doesn't get any better :D Fallout 3 is one of the games I don't want to finish because then it would be over. There's just so much to explore and find out, it's almost impossible to see everything.

Yeah this game is great.. I been palying it about 1-2month and it was really good. Evil FTW :D
I finished every mission and got about every achivement on the PS3.. Only one missing is killing all behemot and getting all bubblehead (i got 12 :~\).

fo3 is very poorly designed especially character movement/animation and blending in with the environment.

Get teh androids laser rifle. it rapes so hard. Then stock up on ammo for gatling laser and get vengence and its GG to anything.

Completely different genres. Obviously you like FPS more than FPS/RPGs hybrids. I got bored of the game because it was too repetitive when I looted everything and sold everything. Had to take way too many trips and I had way too much money and nothing to spend it on.
|
I have a question, if I somewhat I like RPGs, but like FPS...will I like this game? I've been debating about buying it for a while...should just go download the demo lol, but watching the gameplay vids didn't seem satisfying enough to warrant buying it.

when I watched all the video reviews that replayed the slow-motion headshots over and over I lost all interest in this game. Violence in a game is okay as long as it fits it and it's not the main attraction, but judging from the video reviews it's gotta be pretty annoying in Fallout 3.
|
Even though it's probably better than Oblivion, I for some reason enjoyed Oblivion a lot more. I logged something obscene like 160 hours on Oblivion in 2 weeks. Just didn't get into Fallout nearly as much.
Still loved it to death, and explored everything in the entire game, eventually. Tenpenny Tower, and the National Archives were my favorite places in the game. VERY well-designed quest chains and narratives for both of those areas.

I've been on my way to rivet city for a few months now. Just so fucking lazy and I dont want to walk through another scary ass subway station :O
Good game though. I enjoyed Oblivion more too but Oblivion got annoying with all the shit you had to do. Also I went for a ranger with a bow and it seems bows just suck afterawhile. I got Hatred's Revenge or something and it was awesome for a long while then sucked by level 15.

Fallout3: Horrible dialog written by a 12 year-old, overall bad storyline. Horrible voice acting. Appalling gameplay; movement and the VATS was beyond annoying. Awful game. I am amazed my nerves were able to cope up to raven rock...
One of the worst games I have played. Thank you, Bethesda, for dragging the corpse of a previously great series and raping the shit out of it.

You sir, are picky

Edit: Really, the gameplay is all about exploring and discovering new things. It doesn't do anything exceptionally, but this core aspect is so beautifully done that it makes up for all the flaws in the gameplay.

If you play FO3 after FO1 and FO2, sadly to say, it doesn't live up to the gameplay of its predecessors. The end-product is still decent, but not amazing. Its one of the best games to come out in the past year, but it still doesn't hold up against the more classic RPG/FPS hybrids like Deus Ex or System Shock 2. Deep exploration doesn't make up for an engaging story and a refined character system.
That said, I wouldn't go so far as to say FO3 isn't worth the full price. It's not Best Game of All Time material, but its not complete trash, especially given some of the mods out there that refine some of the rough edges of the game (e.g. the difference in killing power between VATS and real-time should NOT be as great as it is).

I did actually, enjoy fallout3 alot. First singleplayer games in a looong time that i did enjoy. I did rush the main quest(ending was really bad imho) and after that it didn't offer anything for me coz i think doing pointless quest and exploring world isn't fun . Yes i have complete fallout 1-2 like 7times both but when i tried playing fallout 2 again couple weeks ago the ui and graphs just felt so bleh. Well i have enjoyed all games now and i think it's really the best rpg series around but i do understand if the "new" players dont like old fallouts.
And yes both system shock 2 and Deus Ex are awesome games but nowadays the graphs are just so bad, so for me they arent worth for playing again.

Fallout one and two are my favorite RPG's ever (just behind Baldurs gate 2, but let's not go offtopic) and yes I did think some of the things in fallout 3 could have been done a LOT better.
With that said I enjoyed it because exploring the wasteland is great fun, although I can't seem to get as much "into" it the second time around. But I might not have found the right mix of mods yet. (I'm a big fan of mods, but my first playthrough is always mod free).
Imo though it is better than Oblivion. Though not quite as good as Morrowind. I didn't like the level progression and monster scaling that much (aka: once you get a plasma rifle, power/tesla armor, sneak 100 and energy weapons 100 everything just dies and it's no fun =P). which is my main gripe with playing it again I think.
Still, it's a good RPG imo and I'd happily recommend it, just don't expect it to be better than fallout 1 & 2, because very very little is.
edited because I really needed some spaces to make this readable, I'm tired. -.-

Well... I don't know... Fallout 3 is kind of too huge and non-linear for its own good imo. And there are some of the typical annoying "Oblivion mechanics" in it. Like item weight/carrying capacity, limited money on vendors, etc. You're exploring the HUGE world, and literally every 10-15min. you're like "Shit, I'm overloaded again... back to the house..." Sure, you don't have to pick up everything you come across, but I'm sort of a collector. I really like having a huge stash of crafting materials, alternative outfits/weapons, etc. Not to mention some really unacceptable bugs. For some people, like myself, the game just kept freezing in interior areas without living creatures.
And last but not least, the story was rather short compared huge amount of side quests, explorable territory, etc. Which wouldn't have been all that bad, if the game wasn't actually FINISHED after completing the main story... Wtf!? Every game of this scale let's you continue playing after finishing the main quest, why not Fallout 3? There's also some kind of "point of no return" in the storyline. Maybe not technically, but from a role-playing perspective it's almost impossible after that point to find any justification to go and do some side quests...
Don't get me wrong, Fallout 3 was a nice game. It can't compete with the likes of the Baldur's Gate Saga, Ultima IX, KotOR 1&2, or even NWN2 + AddOns though imho.
|
yeah. I picked up fallout 3 since it got good reviews and was made by the same guys behind Oblivion. All I can say is that it's pretty disappointing. The environment got pretty old quickly and something about guns and VATS just didn't do it for me. Yep...i love oblivion. but Fallout 3, not so much

Even analyzing the game from the perspective of a person who has not played the other games, Fo3 has NOTHING compelling to offer - the combat is mediocre at best, the "dialog".. well, it's just bad. The character development is there purely in name- Bethsoft added the stats system purely because they wanted ppl to think it was a Fallout game (can't be fallout without SPECIAL).
The only thing Fo3 has going for itself is the graphics, and by graphics I mean landscapes. The landscapes and some of the locations look great. The character models and animations are pretty horrid, esp. by current standards.

The other day, I came across the book on a shelf, but the typeface on the cover was so bleh I decided it isn't worth reading again. Instead I am reading John Grisham's Crime and Punishment: The Runaway Jury.
Edit: Funny, reading this thread I got the urge to attempt to finish the last part of Fo3 (after the crow rock or w/e) just to see the ending, the ultimate disappointment, by what I've heard.. just to get peace of mind, even though I've already dismissed this abortion.

I played through the game, and it was pretty good. Just reading this topic, i had to go through and beat death canyon and the deathclaw sanctuary. Death canyon took me from level 16 to level 19 and i finished leveling at the deathclaw sanctuary. Uninstalling now cause theres nothing left to do.

There's no way to fix the disappointing story/dialogue but at the very least, there are mods that make combat more interesting, and revert back to a character system more reminiscent of the old SPECIAL system.

Incidentally, Fallout is more about story than it is about combat. For me at least. I did enjoy the combat in Fo1 and 2 but it was not the point of emphasis. Getting mods that fix the combat/SPECIAL stuff is like buying a comfortable seat for a bike with no wheels.
I would rather people spend time trying to fix STALKER, which had an acceptable story (although it does not even come close to the novel and movie) and great environment but horrible gameplay and character development.
In conclusion, what's done is done; Beth raped Fallout, and want to continue doing it from what I gather. The only thing left to do is remember the greatness of the old games, keep playing them and inform new people.
