Tonight I finally registered to ICCUP in a hunt with my good old [mech] partner from 4 years ago O_O to find 2v2 games.
It's literally impossible to get a 2v2 on west because first of all nobody plays 2v2 pro maps. Secondly everyone just wants to play Python, and Python is like THE WORST 2v2 map ever. I mean there aren't even enough bases.
We are lucky if we can get a game on LT and even luckier if the players are both good and will game a few times. seriously like a 1% chance to get a game on some other pro map.
Ok, so anyways, we made accounts on ICCUP to play some 2v2 ladder. (which still sucks because he has a MAC >.< and can't run the Antihack or Chaos and people will boot). For some reason he can't play certain maps either. Zodiac and Python crash him every time, but Gaia works fine. We both hate gaia lol.
So we played like 3 games and won them all, D players were much better skill level than west that's for sure. Since he lives east coast its like 4am for him says he wants to play me 1v1 then logs off.
I decide to play a few games solo and to my surprise people are really shitty, wtf? I play way more skilled players on west in UMS pickup obs games. Any random 1v1 I join is generally higher skill as well. I thought D players would be at least robotic safe build orders, FEs, or super cheesy strats. Nothing like that, they just sucked lol. They couldn't even get their nat while I have like 3 bases. Enemy APM was like an average of 100. I was also pretty surprised that not every other player was a dirty protoss.
I went 5-0 as Zerg. http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/gamingprofile/spor[mech].html
When can I expect to see some decent players? I'm currently 1650 points, I assume D+ is 2k, C is 3k, and so on.
PS is iccup laggy for anyone else? I get like 200+ ping and whenever I get out of a game it jumps to like 400-600ms

Also, who registered the name SpoR but didn't even use it? Give it back asshat
Oh yea and when I was filling out my profile the thing has a type and says 'Headphonds'.

I've been playing 2v2 Python exclusively for the last 2 years or so.
Pretty good 2v2 map imo, much better than Lost Temple.

You got lucky/unlucky (depends if you're going for good stats or good games ), that's it. D level players can be anything, from total noobs to people who just reset their acc and want to noob bash.

Each base has only 2 bases guaranteed. This is especially true when you have Terran Tanks covering the mineral only, you can't mine that base. Same for the island. They can creep down their main easily into it. The corner bases are up for grabs for anyone.
LT everyone has their 3 bases then they fight for the islands.
Python just doesn't have enough money evenly.
PPvTT on python is like impossible.

I mean why would you go on a ladder if you are a complete newb anyways, lol. People have like 30% win rate after like 80 games.

Maybe it's fun and challenging to them. Why are their motivations even important to you?

I just had a higher expectation of a ladder that's all. I don't remember people being that bad on any other ladders.

Ppl get pretty good at around C imo, similar to good pubbie west korean players.
edit:
yea i know what you mean, i went 13-2 after i took an eight months break lol, but they were all foreigners.

How does the points thing work anyways. You get 130 for map of the weak win and 100 for normal map right? How come my friend only got 75 for a win?
|
hmm now i'm tempted to play iccup just to see how bad d players really are

Opponents start being able to ape pro build orders around C-, though mostly it's unthinking execution.

it all depends on the time you play really. At the beginning of a season, you barely find a newbie on D ranks, towards the middle or end of a season all those newbies start playing on icc because then there are opponents on their level. I just played a few games on D rank and you're right lol.

this late in the season lots of d players have a negative record

I don't know if iccup follows a specific time pattern, but it seems like they reset the ladder when someone is close to olympic rank. I guess it's going to take another 2 or 3 months.
edit: whoops 4 players hit olympic already, okay forget about this post ^^
