Running on a treadmill isn't that fun really.... That's probably your problem at least it woudl be for me if I tried that. I think the best way to run is via a sport like soccer(futbol) or basketball, running outside or going for a bike ride are good too. I doubt it's your actual energy level, but when all you are doing is running on a treadmill (watching tv or somethign in the background would help to distract you) all you're thinking about is how long you've been running and how tired you feel.

always start slow, gradually increase, don't run every day, have at least 2 days rest in between each.

while this may sound funny at first to people that have not run before, it's absolutely true. some racewalkers are ridiculous. i think the 5k record is somewhere around 18 minutes which is guaranteed to be significantly faster than most of TL running that distance.

Stamina is not my problem with the treadmill. Mine is I get so incredibly bored that I almost start crying.

Edit: Most important thing is to not give a shit what other people are doing. When I'm om there I get guys and girls all the time that go on the one next to me and start running like freaking jack rabbits. Don't try to match their pace, you're not there to look good, you're there to get your stamina up. And as has been previously suggested, when you think you're done, keep going.

I remember a saying I saw on a blackboard in the military once: "You can do twice as much as you think you can, you can do half as much as your officers think you can and you can do fifty times as much as your mom thinks you can"

Honestly, it probably depends on your physiology and metabolism. When I was building up my stamina, I was doing high intensity training and it worked a lot better than running at a slow pace. From my experience, if you want to purely focus on increasing stamina rather than losing weight, punctuated sprinting and walking is the way to go. Sprinting forces you to expand your lungs a LOT larger than you would jogging and it forces your body to metabolize really rapidly (which increases the total amount of various enzymes/proteins that process your oxygen needs). Jogging slowly continuously sets your body up to accomodate for a constant pace and metabolize continuously (thus losing weight).

you'll get there without knowing it.if you keep at it, then one day, you'll find yourself running longer, faster. 10~15 minutes is okay for cardio, but if you really wanna go for 20+ minutes, I think it's got a lot to do with mentality. I know I can run for 40 minutes straight, but some days, i'd just give up at 12 minute mark. getting into that momentum is just hard ..

I agree with the HIIT crew. However, you'll have to build up into it. Don't start out with 100% sprints.. but start out with like 60% and ramp up 10% every couple workouts until you're able to sprint.
