Do any TLers play this game?
I've just recently started playing it, for about 6 weeks now. Looking for people to play with.

That's like the best MMO at the moment, and for several years now. Unfortunately I can't play it anymore without a new graphic card. I believe some famous magazine like Times or something wrote an article about the very unique commercial aspect of the game. Since everything is produced by players, transported by players and sold to players ..

You can get a free trial for 2 weeks, if you want I can send you a "buddy invite" through an email, which extends your trial for an extra week. Plus if you subscribe after your trail I'd get a free month as well. (Sounds like I'm trying to get people to subscribe so I get free time. T_T that's not my intention at all though.) Anyway, its something like $20 USD a month, or 3 months for $43 USD. etc. On February 02 2009 08:33 ilovehnk wrote: might as well play wow, eve looks confusing as fuck.. It's funny you mention that, its sort of an EVE inside joke, about how stupid WoW players are. EVE is a very confusing game at first. But if you dedicate a bit of time to it, and learn the workings it is actually a very rewarding game to play. On February 02 2009 09:44 Ludrik wrote: I've been on a bit of an Eve binge lately. Been playing waaayyyy too much. What is your pilot name, and what race are you? Also you up for some ganking at all? I'm mainly looking for solid players to form fleets with and gank people in low sec space.

Speaking from experience, lowsec pvp without an alt is incredibly hard. Even if you could make decent isk off pvp (good luck - most ships that venture into lowsec are fitted with shitty T1 items and most of the good systems are already occupied), you'd have to ask corp mates to freighter shit in. Rarely do lowsec corps have the industrial backbone to offer modules of great variety so you have to be self sustaining. If you're not willing to shell out for second account, my advice for people new to the game would be to join a high sec wardec corp if you can. You can try your hand at lowsec but be weary of dropping your sec too low. Going from -10 back up to -1.9 can be downright painful if you don't find a good 0.0 pocket to rat. That or join 0.0 alliance off the bat but it isn't my play style or something my laptop can handle. Also, it's incredibly important for new players to find a good corp early on to show you the ropes (EVE isn't a solo friendly game to begin with, unless all you want to do is mission in highsec). Look at the forums and good corp killboards (BOB, Pandemic Legion, etc) to familiarize yourself with good fits. Scrapheap-challenge.com is a good site for EVE related things.

What is a "sec"? sec = security. the EVE galaxy is broken down into basically 3 zones. high security space (solar systems that are designated .5 to 1) low security space (.1-.49) 0.0 or null security space (0-.99) high sec requires a certain amount of security status to enter without getting blown up by npc ships. -1.9 is the cutoff for .5 systems, -1.4 for .6, etc etc. high security = if anyone attacks you, they themselves will be blown by concord (npc guards basically). same thing if you attack someone else. exceptions: if your corp wardec (declare war) on another corp, you are able to attack members of that corp/guild/clan. or if their security status is below that which is required of high sec space (rarely does this happen, if it does, they're usually just flying in their pods or just jumped in from lowsec trying to escape a lossmail only to be blown up by npc ships). people who don't pvp or just "carebear" stay in high sec because they're almost immune to any kind of unwanted pvp and high sec is stocked with items at cheap prices. beginner corps, which everyone starts in, cannot be wardec'ed so they cannot be attacked without consequence. there are also wardec corps as I mentioned who do fight in high sec. also, a large number of alts are stationed in highsec to make isk from missions (think gold and quests) and buy items to fund their pvp ventures. low security = you can attack anyone but you will lose security status if you attack someone with a security status above -5. also, if you engage anyone at a stargate or station with a security status above -5, npcs (gate or station guns) will fire at you. think of lowsec space as shitty space no one wants. there is no real market, items in lowsec are sparse (GL finding a station where you can buy a ship and fully fit it in lowsec) and to find things that aren't at eye gouging prices is a miracle. unlike 0.0, the rewards just isn't worth the trouble. most people in lowsec space are either just passing through or trying their hand at pvp. you will find occasional carebears who are dumb enough to try to mission/mine/rat in lowsec but they are almost always poorly fitted. then there are some outlaw/pirate outfits and such who mostly roam or camp the routes connecting high sec to 0.0. 0.0 or null sec = you can attack anyone anywhere without worrying about npcs or security status.

I signed up for the 2 week trial only to find that my computer simply can't run the game. It took me five minutes to load the game and get to the actual gameplay screen...and then my computer just stopped. It took me twenty minutes to exit out. -____-;; I am not a fan of MMOs and don't like the idea of paying a subscription fee to play a game, but EVE is the one game I might break that for.

It makes for a really interesting [meta]game but unfortunately it's more fun to WATCH the drama and wars unfold from a 3rd person view then it is to actually PLAY the game. There's plenty of people who are in major alliances that don't even have active accounts, but still actively participate in the games greatest wars through social engineering, spying, forum hacking and other ways that have little to do with actually playing the game.
