Wow nice photos, I wish I had a backyard like yours. You are probably on the west coast then? I think there would be snow if you weren't? I don't think there's any backyards like this is my area though.
|
hehehe thanks.
i live near san francisco :p so, no snow.
man, it must suck to not have a backyard. i'll always remember playing in the trees and bushes and shit when i was really little... good times.
|
haha It's not that I didn't have a backyard, but it isn't even close to being as nice as yours. Still had some great times ofc, I guess it doesn't matter when your a kid. I'm from the south Bay, so suburbia and stuff.
|
ah yeah. i live just over the hills from berkeley, in orinda. our backyard was just overrun w/ plants most of my childhood, which made it so fun. we never really had a lawn or anything because it's so sloped, same goes w/ the front of our house.

I really like the trees and the birds nest picture .
|
These are some great pictures. Keep it up!

thanks for all the positive feedback guys.
i'm going to buy a tripod soon so i can play w/ the lighting more :p

I'd guess it's probably a Canon Rebel or a Nikon D40/60.
From the names of your images, it's probably Canon =)
I always wanted to get a DSLR this xmas, but I'm too broke atm

How about venturing here: http://nd-magazine.com/
Go for Mr. Andy Mumford's articles, he's a really good photographer and an excellent person overall (andymumford.deviantart.com for some of his photos )
Nice photos, however I can really tell you're missing a few basic, key concepts Interesting beginner's ideas though, I can relate, sort of.
Keep it up, photography becomes much much cooler once you start knowing your camera + some basic guidelines. Guidelines, or rules in photography are the best ever, since you usually break some to make an expressive photo.
I enjoyed the photo with the globe especially, and also the one with the ladder. Nice play with the DoF. It's always the best logical thing to read your camera's manual from cover to cover, it was quite useful for me when I started out with my Canon EOS 400D (it's the Rebel XTi I think in the States?)
The rest of them are okay, however on a few occasions you just seemed to point and shoot at a subject, without searching for anything (angle, lighting, or central subject - even though I'm sure you didn't just mindlessly shoot, but practice some more!) that could make your photo really expressive (like the ivy photo, the abalone, or the nest one). That's typical for beginners, it will change quickly once you fully understand that what you see through the viewfinder is actually different than what you see with your eyes naturally.
For example, your usual photograph is composed of a subject (this can be large array of "things", and it isn't always TOO obvious) and a background (this offers infinite possibilities, from coral reefs and seas and grass and leaves and anthills to snow or a black, abstract wallpaper, etc). Your photo with the nest is nice, and the nest in itself with all the colored stuff around is pleasing visually, but it just seems to lack something, a central point of interest. For example, I once saw a photo of a lonely tropical tree on the bank of the Amazon, in a very foggy morning. + Show Spoiler + which in my opinion is much more representative of the whole Amazonian tropical atmosphere than all the other incredibly crowded tree formations you could have probably see there all over the place. I actually bet this lone tree was hard to find, but it's most representative. Don't you agree?
Please forgive me if I sound patronizing, I am nothing more but a newbish beginner that just wants to share some experience
Hope I provide anything useful to you, and keep shooting, you can become a child once again, and this time the world will be your backyard
Also check my blog if you haven't;)
