after the intense examination thing (my eyes are still watery from those damn lights), he said to me that my left eye is normal and my right eye is -1.0 (i dunno how good/bad this is but from what hes said its not as bad as it could be.)
right now he told me not to bother with any sort of aid yet, come back in 6months and see if things have progressed and then, if they have, i might need to get a contact for my right eye.
i asked him alot of questions about lasik and laser surgery, suprisingly he said its a viable option. he told me of 2 quality places in my area that charge about 3000 bucks per eye (more than i expected, but still, not a bad price). he told me that the chance of severe problems is about the same as winning the lottery and no more probable than any other surgery. the worst ill get is dry eyes if they get irritated by the air con or whatever but really almost 0 chance of getting serious complications
the opto said that the technology for it has progressed alot in 2008/09 compared to 5 years ago, and the only problem is the cost (which isnt that much compared to contacts and practicality) and that since lasik is only 20years old they have no idea about the long term (50years sideaffects). but other than that, as long as im 18 im allowed to undergo it (but its a good idea to wait until my eye has stopped changing first.)
he didnt really give me a definite answer as to how long the lasik treatment lasted, but he said its pretty much long lasting barring any mishaps like overccorrection (which can be fixed anyway).
right now i dont think ill bother even with a contact until a 6month check up, i dont think my eyes will deteriorate that much more and he said i could live pretty easy without aid like this, so i think getting surgery isnt really a priority in the present, but of course its nice to know its definately an option, should i decide to go for it.
i forgot to ask him if having a minus diop thingy closer to 0 is better than a -5 or whatever in terms of a successful and perfect surgery, but my guess is yes it does.
i guess right now i can stop worrying and shitting myself about going blind, i was so fucking nervous in the opto's chair but he was a nice guy and i think he gave it to me frank so im happier than i was this morning.
thanks,
mike
