So apparently I've been living under a rock for the past 2 years or whatever. I've never heard about this movie coming out or the book that this was based on until class last week when every girl in all of my classes were gushing with excitement that this movie is coming out this Friday.
When I asked wtf Twilight was everyone just acted as if I asked the most retarded question ever. Anyways I found out apparently there's a series of books and was wondering if anyone here had read them and would recommend them. I hate feeling out of the loop, but I'd rather not waste my time if it's just a horribly written sappy love story that happens to have vampires =/
I'll probably end up watching the movie though since apparently all my friends are twilight freaks (am I honestly the only one who hasn't heard of this?).
edit: in case anyone else was as clueless as me here's some info on the book and movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twilight_Novel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twilight_Movie
Poll: It has vampires so it must be awesome right? (Vote): YES! (Vote): HELL NO! (Vote): vampires are never awesome... edit: must not much =/

LOL ya a fd was asking me whether i would watch this movie im like wats this, never heard of it....doesnt seem that interesting tho

no dude. just fucking no. every fucking chick i know is obsessed with that book. its the most fucking craziest stupidest shit ever. its worst than harry potter, wait no, its almost as bad as HP because not just chicks digged HP, guys too.
|
yea i read them all, its pretty much a romantic fiction novel. the story was pretty intresting imo. yup movies coming out EveryYYYyyYyy girl is going to see it.
|

I'm still going to read them all. It's good to stay up on popular culture.
|
My wife read them to me (while I played Starcraft or Diablo).
I would recommend them to any girl but not to guys. They are written from the 1st person perspective of a girl and talk a lot about her skin burning as he would smell her earlobe and stuff like that. Not all that engaging for a man to read.
They are fairly funny at times and uplifting at other (the main vampires are extremely moral and Carlisle says a few profound/thought provocing things).
Its an easy read. There is generally no action until the end of each book, and then an exciting few chapters with fighting.
Finally, if you want a GOOD read by the same author, read The Host. That is also from the 1st person perspective of a girl, but it is much deeper and better writted imo.
The Host is also VERY unique. I don't know of any book like it, but there are plently of books like the Twilight series.

god damnit, you guys are screwed too. whats wrong with you guys.

read the anatomy of a boyfriend instead

My situation exactly. My friend read it for the kicks of it and he said it was the worst thing for a guy to read, ever.

Man all it takes for a book to be successful is for the main character to remind every teenager of themselves and for that main character to have a love interest that reminds every teenager of their fantasy date. srsly. twilight blows

Hey man weren't you ever young. =[
I have some fond memories reading HP, with the exception of the last book which was mediocre it was an incredible series of books.
oh and a quick wiki tells me:
Twilight is a young adult vampire/romance novel written by author Stephenie Meyer. It was originally published in hardcover in 2005. It is the first book of the Twilight series, and introduces seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to Forks, Washington, and finds her life in danger when she falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. The novel is followed by New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
ughhhhhh no male should ever have to read this

Ya my sister read all those lolol

I hadn't heard of it until my girlfriend started reading it and, like every other girl who's read it, fell madly in love with it.
I now have to go see the movie as soon as it comes out. It was either that or High School Musical 3. I think I made the right choice.

I think there was no right choice.

I think the right choice involves a rope and a tearful goodbye letter

What about suicide?, that seems a lot less painful.
A spanish ladyfriend started talking to me about this a long time ago, i knew it was a girls only romantic kind of book, so i didnt pay too much attention. But now every girl is talking about... Good thing my girlfriend hasnt read it. Yesterday she told me she just finished a book about vampires and i was getting scared, but it was a different one lol.

Yeah everyones read it, my gay english teacher's read it too
|
I've only read the first book, so I'll give my thoughts on it. It's a fairly sappy romance involving an ordinary high school age girl as the protagonist and the biggest fucking mary sue I have ever seen, Edward Cullen. Half of the time I spent reading the book was spent laughing at how ridiculous he is as a character. Did you know he can read minds? Did you know he can run 12736876 times faster than any human? Did you know he's 128736875 times stronger than any human? Did you know that he's SOOOoooOO gorgeous? Did you know that he can play piano like he's the next Mozart? Did you know that he's the perfect athlete? Did you know... You get the point, I hope. I guess this explains why every girl who's touched the book is a teenager, and why they have also consequentially fallen in love with it.
Looking at it from a literary point of view, its plot is fairly dull once you get deeper into the book. The exposition and the end are probably the most interesting, and even then it only held half my attention. It's basically mediocre, which isn't at all surprising, given that it's Stephanie Meyer's first. So don't look to be at all impressed by the movie if you happen to be dragged on by a girlfriend or something.

Some girl in my class wont stop talking about the books it makes me go crazy sometimes.

I've never heard of this shit either and I would stop talking to someone if they acted like I was out of the loop by not being in on this.
On the other hand, my roommate has romance books about vampires and they're all way more absurd and ridiculous than regular romance novels so maybe there is merit to this.

This series delayed the Harry Potter movie release until next summer. GG

Its like the next harry potter for women.

You didnt commit suicide so you didnt make the right choice

Kristen Stewart is in it. Thats enough to make me go

Assholes.
I agree it sucks, but seriously now, going to see a movie like Twilight with your girlfriend is like watching Sex and the City with her. Yeah, it sucks big time while you're watching it, but think of what's gonna happen afterwards.
Anyway, I'd take a sappy romance movie with vampires over a bunch of kids dancing and singing any day. If I had to make that choice (which I did), that is.
|
All the guys in here are looking at this the wrong way.
How do you think your GF will be during/after the movie?
Even if this movie sucks, this thread proves guys are assholes Plus, how much worse can it be than Harry Potter?
|
awwww guys, wtf with the 1star
I didn't say I liked Twilight or even anything hyping it up, just asking what it was.
|
All my friends who are girls are insane over this book and they're all anticipating the movie. Even people some of my guy friends even read the book because they were curious to what the fuss is about.
|
I thought it was cute. Not well written, and certainly not something I'd recommend outside of as a joke, but I can understand why it appeals to a certain demographic. It's also not much of a surprise that the first-person completely alienates most heterosexual males, but hey, what do you expect
|
sounds dumb, vampires should be killing people, not falling in love anyways, underworld>twilight ez

true, you make a good point, i wasn't thinking about that, its been a while since I've seen that movie. I was just thinking along the lines of people getting owned. At least it happens with violence
