I took a long, long break from Iccup. The start of the season was brutal and I think I went like 4-12 or something like that, and it was just bad.
Well, the few months off apparently helped quite a bit... I still played my friend, and during this time my muta micro improved to the point where I was bludgeoning him in most of my ZvT's, which I had usually lost before. I still lost to the occasional sunken break, but that was about it.
So using my newly found muta micro, I played 11 games today and went 9-2 on Iccup. About half of the games were ZvT, the other half ZvP. I used to feel like I couldn't beat Terrans unless they were vastly inferior, as they would always build a huge ball of doom that I couldn't crack.
The only games I lost today were to a mech build that I scouted late (I almost won anyways, but I got a bit greedy and lost all my hydras and couldn't replace them), and to a Peruvian (the lag was terrible... he also stimmed his marines and already had them in position which was a little suspicious, but I botched some other things anyways). Both of the loses were on Longinus.
So I am at D+ again... with a 11-3 record. I have never had a winning record on Iccup, so this is kind of new. In fact, I consider myself to be doing pretty well if I hit 40% wins. I got to D+ last season, but it was a struggle to win even on the D level, more often than not. I feel like C- might be in reach, if I fix a few things. On the other hand, I am not really sure I have the time to dump into games at the moment.
Unfortunately, my apm is still lower than pretty much everyone. Averaging 110ish-120ish at the moment. It has been rising somewhat steadily, but I really need to work on my macro.

I found out that I do fairly better with short breaks also. Good to hear that you've been doing so well lately. Keep up the good work.

iCCup simply intimidates me. I don't even know why. I know it is only a game, and you can reset the record, but the idea of competitive StarCraft weans me away from it. I actually have a winning record, though not as good as 11-3. It is the same ratio though (close enough): 4-1. That is about all the games I am planning to play this season.

Ha... you know, I used to get completely amped playing every single game, and make a bunch of stupid mistakes because of that. But that is gone as well now. It is kind of weird, because I always knew that the games weren't a big deal, but I couldn't control the rush anyways.

iCCup used to intimidate me also because I used to think that my skill level wasn't up to par. But, that's where the rank system comes into play for the most part. You play other people within your certain skill level and you learn so much. You need to become comfortable in your own skin and just ride it out. Trust me, everyones had humiliating losses and cheese that has made them think twice. It's all about how you come out from it and what you can take with you.

I have the same "amped" affect when I play. My first 1-2 games are always trembly and shit. But then things get better after a bit. I bet really experienced players don't ever have that anymore.

Are you comparing how you did at the beginning of the season with how you did at the end of the season?

Uh... not really. The clip I was winning at at the start of the season about the same as the previous season, only the losses were a lot more demoralizing. I know I was playing better players at the start of the season.
But I'm beating players I wouldn't have last season in ZvT now. :d

Wanna play some TvZ some other day? I could use a practise partner and you seem to be around the same skill level.

Eh... my ZvT needs some brushing up. Maybe in the future.
I got smashed by the same guy three times, none of the games did I even feel close to winning, to end my great run. I did win a ZvZ afterwards (mostly a build order win, but nothing is assured with my ZvZ ), which is my first ZvZ Iccup win. Yay. :D
