Augh...

Here's some music while you read (kinda reflects how I'm feeling right now):

Senior year for me has been nothing but a ton of work lately. To start off, I'm taking AP Bio, AP Physics, AP English, AP Calc, and American Gov this year, which I'm trying to balance with Cross Country practice.

So everyday I go to practice which takes at least 2.5 hours everyday, so I'm already behind in time. AP Calc sometimes happens to have a ton of work sometimes even though it's easy. AP Bio is just a lot of busy work with lab write-ups and worksheets and studying/memorizing. AP Physics is quite hard already and some days it days it takes hours just to do a few problems. Not to mention the absolute crap feeling you get when you can't figure out a problem. American Gov SHOULD be an easy class but so far everyone I know has a B+ in it. My teacher happens to be one of the ones that actually cares about the class and actually grades the homework. Piled with a bunch of worksheets and readying I'm really starting to hate this class. Last but not least, AP English is piled chock-full with annotating and reading. Not only does the other AP English class have less reading to do in longer time periods, they don't have to annotate. Those who have to annotate know how annoying and tedious it can get (especially when the book margins are so small!).

Today, because I had to study for Gov and Bio, I got only 3.5 hours of sleep. Ironically the lack of sleep screwed me up while taking the test, I could hardly remember anything. T_T

Then we had a Cross Country meet where I didn't do so well.

Now I'm annotating The Trial and Death of Socrates, which shall take me several hours to do... Time to sleep late again. I know all this crap is temporary but I seriously feel like QQing. Not like, because I'm sad, but just like a sober and somber feeling. :[

How in the world college students cram so late into the night is beyond me...

either drop 1-2 of those classes or stop doing cross country if all that is too much for you.

edit: or just do it!

FUCK YEAH ZELDA!
i cant say i feel your pain, but i can imagine... if you are taking some of those courses and they aren't necessary i would say drop 1 or 2 like nitrogen23 said, but its probably not that simple.

It's impossible to do everything for every class when you have a schedule like that. You need to figure out what you can get away with not doing. This could also mean not paying attention in class lectures and doing homework for other classes instead :D

I wouldn't say it is impossible, but I'll agree it is very hard. I know I had a schedule similar to that, and I did some community service work a lot for around a month and that month was really, really hard. Having mandatory annotating is kind of dumb though, that would drive me crazy. I would get home, take a nap immediately, get up 2-3 hours later and stay up until 2-3 am sometimes. I also wouldn't eat lunch and would just sit in a hallway and not think about anything (not enough time to sleep, unfortunately).

Honestly, high school was a lot harder for me than college, overall. Yeah, some (okay, a lot) of the classes were harder in college, but there were usually a few blow off classes that were easy. Although my grades did dip quite a bit in college relative to high school (except in the aforementioned blow off classes), but the amount of work was lower. I guess there were some rare exceptions to this that were caused by my procrastination.

Also think of it this way: if you're getting all those APs out of the way now, that's potentially a lot less work later. I know this is partially why I found college easier- I had a lot fewer required coursed I had to take, because I had like 2/3rds of them already.

wow, you have a lot to learn dude. Homework in high school is a huge waste of time. Dont do it. Period. High school is your time for having fun and partying, and discovering life. Put down the books and go out and enjoy yourself. Have fun. University is where you need to spend that kind of time on school. High school should be the time of your life. Enjoy it.

are you trying to get splinters in your butt or something? I only ask because i always compared AP physics tests to being raped by a broomstick... with sandpaper... and everyone agreed with me. Now add AP Chem, bio, english, and gov? sheesh...

But hey, if you need homework help, post it up here. everyone knows starcraft requires an innate knowledge of newtonian mechanics as well as electricity and magnetism.

ok so my friend pointed me out to this blog and i totally feel your pain man.

My schedule is to the same extreme,
Since i finished ap calc last year i am taking a number theory course from stanford instead of another calculus class.
i have ap phys, econ, lang, and bio plus my number theory class. I am also taking organic chem and digital photo (required)

i feel your pain dude. Lately i have been staying up to 2 or 3 am to finish all my crap while i am doing hockey and soccer. Im at the point now where i might just stop doing homework in one class who knows.

well take it easy dude dont kill yourself

i did full IB and let me tell you, it wasn't worth it (except all college work after that seemed so hella easy). you don't need to do all that crap to get in into a halfway decent college, and most halfway decent colleges are good enough to get you into med school/law school/grad school, wahtever school.

the only reason why someone might want to work that hard is if they plan on keeping it up through college. think about it this way. in starcraft, if you do well in the beginning of a game, but mess up in the middle, it's as if you didn't do well in the beginning ether because it's all the same.

try to pace yourself throughout, or else you're wasting effort during the time when you are working harder than the rest. . oh ya, most people at colleges don't work as hard as you. try not to go to a party college and have all your good habits go bad. hahaha.

i regret not working as hard as you did. i took a lot of AP classes in my senior year in high school, i did well and some and poorly in others. I feel like the ones i did well in reflect what my real interests are though rather than just gpa whoring the standard classes.

Well, who says you have to do _all_ of that?

Putting it relatively, one of my friends took about 11 AP classes in his high school career. Another one did 7 his senior year (chem, english, calc, gov, macroEc, environmental science, and I think physics) and he still did fine (failed chem literally because the teacher's a bitch though).

Seriously though, if your plan was to go hardcore on the APs, you shouldn't be in a sport. It just destroys you energetically, leaving you with none left to actually study. The good thing about doing Cross Country now is that if you stay in it, you'll build up your stamina and later be able to study even with practice.

That said, good luck.

If it's too much for you, then you should probably drop one of the activities. I know that in my senior year, because of college apps and stuff, I dropped one of my classes so that I would have more time to do other things with my life. If you're enjoying what you're doing though, then you should keep doing it, and know that you'll reap the benefits of your hard work later.

You are clearly trying to take too much, so you have to slack a bit on at least some of them or you might lose your spirit.

But you have to do well in high school to get to a university...

And how is it ironic that the lack of sleep made you screw up on your test? Isnt that a cause?

I fucked up pretty damn badly in high school. I got a D on the final year of the class but didn't get anything taken away so basically ENJOY your last year of hs.

BTW yes I was paranoid as fuck that one bad grade could hurt but it doesn't.

I tried studying a lot so that I could do well on my tests, but this led to me doing worse.

You only have to do well up to the end of the first semester of high school. Even then, junior year is so much more important than the first half of senior year. As long as you are not failing a bunch of classes or close to failing, or straight C's, it's ok.
