Quality games, they sure don't make them like they used too.

I never noticed that before. It's definitely true.

I remember almost all of them but I only cared for SCBW, HL and Unreal.

Over the history of computer games I only really cared about
Starcraft
CounterStrike
Jagged Alliance
Civilization
Duke Nukem

So I guess 1998 still wins for Starcraft and HL. 1999 is a close 2nd though.

Edit: phew, almost forgot The Duke

I've always heard that the Thief series was good, but now I see why I never played it. There's no way that many top titles could be released within 2 weeks of each other anymore. I remember how hard it was to get a copy of OoT on launch day too. My stepbrother and I drove to so many stores until we found a Circuit City that had copies left.

Tribes wasn't hugely popular, but it was the predecessor for the Battlefield series, Planetside, et al. It was years ahead of its time, suffered from patching problems, and lagged because almost no one had broadband in 1998. It still holds a special place in the hearts of everyone who played it back then.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

Loved these specific ones. Didn't play most of the others.

I said the exact same thing, that 1998 was best, in a GameFaqs top ten list, the top ten years for gaming. It got rejected. Boo gamefaqs.

Grim Fan-fucking-dango. What an awesome game, (even though I had to use the walkthrough for 40% of it..*ahem*). And Baldurs' Gate.... the nostalgia!!!
