I took a lil trip to http://www.redrockclimbingcenter.com/

That was really fun, and really intimidating. There was probably 10 other people there, and they all seemed pretty badass. I think I went at a weird time so the only people there were pretty good.

As for the bouldering routes, I had never gotten a chance to see what I am capable of climbing, as far as the V-scale goes.

The V-scale is the system of difficulty rating for bouldering routes. It starts at v0(easiest, like easy holds all in reach on a vertical wall), up to v5 (overhangs, hard holds, etc). It then further specifies difficulty with decimals, like v5.1 is harder than v5, and v5.11 is harder than vs5.1.

I had seen videos though, so I didn't expect to climb harder than v3. Anyways, I ended up doing some traversing randomly for like a half hour, and then started trying to figure out what routes were what, which was crazy cuz there was like a million holds and colored tape everywhere and some of it was faded.

This gym obviously isn't for noobs, cuz almost all the routes were v5 or harder, which is pretty crazy imo lol.

Anyways I tried a v1 and raped it. So I tried a v2 and it was kinda tough but I beat it. Then I did another v2 and destroyed it, so I tried a v3 and couldn't get more than halfway.

Then I tried a v5.11 and didn't even understand how to get past the first hold lol.

Anyways, while I am climbing, I look up and there is this chick on this overhang totally like upside down and shit and making me look pathetic. It was kind of awesome actually.

ok, umm, I guess that is the end of this post. I hope it didn't bore you. Really don't care if it did though

I have a place called Reading Rocks (Since I live in Reading, Pennsylvania! LOL!)

Pretty much the same thing but not nearly as cool. I went there and barely climbed.

I hate heights.

wow reading is a cool name for a town

2 questions:

1.) how high is literacy there?

2.) does anyone make a joke if they see a rainbow

Reading is pronounce "Redding" here.
(When it's town name ofc, we don't red books)
(Unless you're using the past tense)
No I'm never serious.

Good stuff travis, I'm into a lot of bouldering myself (done it about a year, off and on a lot though, going about 3 months straight now though and no intention of stopping) so I've been starting to work on V3's myself.

I'm thinking the V-scale has to do with how overhung(?) the climbing face is. You could walk on slopes up to maybe 30 degrees, and crawl pretty easily up to 45, but you'd need to start climbing past that. When it goes over 90 degrees, the going gets pretty damn tough.

Wikipedia says I'm wrong, and it's only based on how hard it is to climb.

yeah v1 routes can be on 90 degree overhangs too.

the V scale just isn't kind to anyone who isn't already good at climbing

I did it once, but plan to do it more often. Only problem is that I need to drive about 40 km to get there, so I can't do it that often.

I managed to climb a 4 on the UIAA-Scale (1-11, from 3 on they can have + and -). I failed at 4+. Didn't do much bouldering, as I was quite exhausted after climbing for almost 2 hours .

I dunno, is rock climbing common in gyms? i just never thought about it before; the more i look into it, the more intriguing it seems though

The two gyms I go to are:
Ironworks http://www.touchstoneclimbing.com/bi.html
Planet Granite http://www.planetgranite.com/

I'm only on v1's and the occasional v2 right now when it comes to bouldering.

The v scale just keeps going up to v9 and maybe higher, instead of stopping at 5 and switching to decimals. I wonder what the difference is.

edit: Also, I've noticed that difficulties can vary from gym to gym, based on the setters, and I hear that sometimes it can be very different.
