Was watching the (P)Kal vs (T) BByong[Kal] WCG VODs and saw a Command and Conquer 3 WCG vod in the related videos. I used to play this game so I figured I would see what top-level play looked like.
And woah. Ok, first of all even as someone who put a decent amount of time into the game.. I can just barely follow what is going on at all. Secondly.. Woah that is fast.
I mean, I always thought SC was a fast paced RTS.. because, honestly, it is. But the first half of that VOD has the players reaching their top-tier units by the 5 minute mark. That is really fast. The GG also seems to come from no-where. I am guessing once the GDI aircraft killed the Scrin Aircraft there is no hope of Scrin defending his airspace or something, but it seemed like both players just teched at breakneck speed, started to mass their most powerful unit, and then one randomly GGed.
Still, wow was that fast.
The second half the of the VOD has got to be a highlights reel, right? I mean stuff just seems to be happening out of nowhere. If this is a realtime recording of a game then CnC3 is about a thousand times faster than I recall it being.
So yea.. I recall there being a thread a while ago, some article about why SC is a better competitive game then WC3 due to it being a great spectator game (easy to watch). CnC3 has to take the cake for the most difficult to watch then, right?
That looks a bit sped up (or they left out big parts in between teching).
Either way I hate C&C games (even though I still play them) because every new tech level counters the previous making it almost pointless to get infantry or light vehicles, etc once you've gone past them.
Well, typical SC game: FE, pumping eco/teching until the 8 minute mark approximately, then trying a first attack or harass while expanding further. Later on big army clash, and again and again. For the players it's only very fast because they're constantly overwhelmed with tasks to do. But when you just watch the game, it's not very fast. C&C is still way inferior though. It's also very hard to follow.
oh yeah, I remember watching this earlier today. Yeah, I have no idea what was going on. I remember seeing a bunch of planes (4 of them) lifting off and killing this one unit and the guy GG'd. And in another game they both had these huge mech units and when one of them died, they gg'd. So i guess its like teching to a Thor that has like 9999 life and seeing who could kill it first.
:/
Reasons why SC rocks: 1. 2d graphics 2. easy to follow 3. ??? 4. fun
Looks kind of neat. I can't follow it at all without knowing the map or units, but the unit designs look really interesting. Maybe that was just a rush game? I can't imagine the majority of games are over after 5 minutes.

they progressed pretty far in the tech tree wcg 2007 grand finals were about this length too, i went to watch them out of curiosity after my friend was complaining that "starcraft is too fast" "starcraft is build a lot of 1 unit" "starcraft is all rushes" etc and then i found out that really he didn't know what he was talking about, as CNC3 fits the bill of being a lot of 1 unit and always being over in 5 minutes.

Yeah I saw this myself and was AMAZED at the speed of it, I also played it and this is incredible. Its too hard to read whats going on tho, you show a newbie a starcraft game, its easily readable but this isnt at all.
