Show number of pages for threads?

This has probably been brought up before, but I was thinking it'd be a lot more convenient and cool to have the number of pages in a thread show up in the forum index.
ie: http://www.astatalk.com/viewforum.php?f=6

I'm not saying change the whole forum layout, but just so that there would be page numbers right below/next to the thread title. It'd give people a better idea of how long or how old that thread is, which I find is hard to determine by the number of replies. (rare exception: facebook thread which is less than a week old but has a billion pages/replies.)

I think you can set the number of posts per page in your preferences. Which would make the number of "pages" different for everyone, namely NUM_OF_POSTS / POSTS_PER_PAGE_FOR_USER. I think the default is 20 per page; you can probably do the math quickly.

For the purpose you proposed, I think it would make more sense to put in a "topic started on DATE" field.

Anyway, I've never really had a problem with it the way it works right now. But I suppose your suggestion wouldn't be bad... Though I think if you spend enough time here at tl.net you get a pretty good grasp of what's old and new..

One thing that I think I would like: the 5 threads most recently posted to are linked to on the left menu. These always link to the first page, which means an additional click and page load when you want to see the most recent post (if the thread is >20 posts long). Linking to the last page would work better for that. Obviously not what you want for the news articles and whatnot, though, which is arguably the primary function of this site.

why would you want to automatically go to the last page instead of the OP

If you're following a conversation. I mean, certainly threads for news posts or whatever, you're mainly interested in the OP. But if it's an older thread that you've read already, the newest posts are what you want to see.

In other forums they have a feature where they show the last thread posted in, right under the subforum. If you click that link it takes you to the page where you LAST LEFT OFF. AKA: if you never viewed that thread before you'll be taken to its first page, but if you have viewed that thread before and it was 3 pages long (and now its at, lets say, 5), you'll be taken to page 3, where you last left off.

What you're saying is like a more simplified version of the feature i just talked about, since this feature uses cookies to save your thread-viewing history.
