probably a blown battery or AC... did you put it on suspense mode for the whole night?

Is it an outlet laptop ie Dell, Gateway? If so, read the manual, they usually have an indicator somewhere on the case in the form of a set of lights that will let your narrow down the problem. Dell's have a set of 4 lights, either off, orange, or green for each - and depending on the state of these lights you know the computer failed to boot for a particular reason.
Also - did you have your power cord in when you tried to boot? Maybe the battery just ran dry?

no the batteries and power work for sure cuz power lights are on but disk reading and w/e other lights do not even hint at a flicker
no i turned it off last night

mines been like this for months, even after formatting. I'm starting to suspect harddrive failure
