first of all thank you everyone for their responses!! D:
TL is so good to me ;-; lol
i think for now my decision will be just to finish up on law school first as this will be a safer plan and all, and after this i'll consider going to art instead again. another issue is that my dad who's also a solicitor always brings up stuff about my future like taking the LPC (which is a qualifying exam thing for UK solicitors). when do you guys think i should tell my parents about my decision? because currently they know nothing of this issue lololol XD i'm so bad at doing face to face things -__- sigh;;
anyway to clarify and respond to some things:
1) artosis generally my parents are very nice asian parents as in they haven't forced me to do anything it was my own decision to go into law due to my bad grades in art and stuff.
2) this art course i took in high school was all about like interpreting art and creating art that had cultural links and like blhblabh social issues and stuff which was interesting to an extent but i wasn't really interested in creating that kind of thing, i liked to simply create aesthetically pleasing things like designs and you know, plain drawings or paintings whatever
3) dknight thanks for that info i have heard of RISD it's so famous however another issue with my situation is whether i should / must i attend art school? i've read on some forums and a famous concept artist completely looked down upon art schools (especially expensive ones lol) and said that many of the people working under him don't even have degrees O_O
4) myrmidon thanks for the big chunk of advice well anyway i clarified what kind of course i took up there at point 2 or something
5) malmis, ryot, boblion, haha i see that makes me feel better about the 'am i too old' thing thanks a lot! oh and bob why don't you consider this as well then lolol
6) Elvin_vn hey yeah i am from asia xD and yes competition is so crazy in hong kong / china, to get into a top law firm would need suchhh good credentials it's insane and i'm really not motivated enough for that...
and i've considered your tips over and over again thanks if i go through with this i will definitely finish my law degree first if i didn't i would feel like i wasted these 2 -3 years even more and of course it could serve as a backup plan :/
7) sigrun :p haha you're much too flattering! personally i think there's so much room for me to improve i think my art is kinda sucky anyway what are you planning to do later in life? going to pursue an art kind of career?
8) HamerD O _o whys that
9) waterdragon i guess so hmm i think where i've been brought up (hong kong, china) and my asian parents-ness has put too much emphasis on the money making issues in life into my head @_@ as for posting some art well i'm sure you've followed the TSL some of my art is there
10) grobo lolol now i'm feeling a lot better about the age thing HAH :D yeah you lucky swedish bastards pyrogenetix my friend from home is studying there too cuz he's got swedish (err EU?) passport -_-; thanks again~
11) hey Elric O_O woah finishing LPC already haha if i follow law instead i will definitely ask you
anyway last summer (summer after 1st year) my dad who is also a solicitor got me a short unpaid 2 week internship at Sidley Austin dunno if u've heard of it cuz its more american based or something anyway well...i've heard that most internships were really boring and people didn't really get anything to do because the other lawyers etc couldn't really give any really important tasks to you to do..
anyhow i guess it was alright looking at different company's initial public offering prospectuses and organizing sidley austin's IPO database and updating the firm's statute books lol but say i was doing an internship at a design firm i think it might have been much more stimulating (for me at least!)
HAHA williams v roffrey bros.. oh man don't even remind me now XD i don't know how easy / hard it is to get vacation schemes in the UK but i've applied for quite a few in HK and they've all rejected me -_-; again, i have to say that my grades in law have not been exceptional...i don't know what my grades for this year will be they'll be out in july1st. i have worked much harder this year but then again there's been a lot more work and the modules have been a lot harder (land and crim are bitches for sure..also i took business law which is focused on the Sale of Goods Act 1979, then company law and EU are not really easy either)
thanks for the long response though
12) nevergg haha i guess your change in career / life is inspirational. i will think of you again when considering this for myself! again i think i place too much emphasis on how much money i'll be making in an art job compared to a law job but i think followin my true passion is what's best...
13) UmmTheHobo woah good job to your dad O_O considering now that apple is probably one of the biggest companies around now that's really awesome >< i'm jealous
14) physician hi! haha i have been doing some practices lately and again i've done some art for the TSL and random things on TL generally so you can go have a look sometime hehe. of course those aren't full blown spend-20-hours-on-them kinds of pieces but still maybe a rough general idea? i may post some new or old things next blog.
15) fight/flight hmm yeah i think many people do actually change jobs and stuff these days... thanks for the reply d00d
