Just sharing some thoughts originated from gtr-2-go's latest blog post here
that thread makes me realise that most of what makes these games for each of us great is...
nostalgia!!
thinking of these games takes us years back in totally different times and places from what we're living now. somehow I think no one can appreciate most of these the same by playing them in 2008. which is partly sad.. and for the other part so cool for us who have experienced and appreciated them
they're part of our lives and our history. part of our childhood and oh-so-many emotions
part of who we are

Agreed, the first Doom, Civilization, and C&C makes me very nostalgic.

So true, i enjoyed some games even more than a good book or a good film . ( And i need to say that love books ^^ ).
I feel sorry for all the young people who will never play Stracraft , Civilization, Baldur's gate and so on ... But well they can play Command and conquer 3 and FF13.

i remember being amazed at all the little things i remember totally random details from lemmings, kyrandia, civ 1, donkey kong country, sim cityetc.. but i don't remember anything particular about cod4, bioshock, brawl and so on except pew pew graphics.
gaming has lost it now. i can't really put a word on it. maybe 'charm'?
and i'm kinda apprehensive about replaying the games because i remembered ff7 being a super epic game like 10 years ago then i played it again a few months back. it was a resounding 'meh' and kinda ruined it for me now. so i'll let my memories remember the other games i've played

doom and wc2 man, good times
Still I like gaming now as much as then the constant progress of technology and new classics never ceases to amaze me, after doom I thought nothing could be as fun but when half life came out I was blown away again. I think gaming will always stay amazing.
