It is quite known that overlords (or any other unit) can count the minerals and if they have been slightly mined, the enemy is there. This is a great scouting technique, to find the position of your enemy without giving your position away (assuming it is your first scouting overlord coming from your base).

This is very nice to use on Python 1.3 positions 3:00 -> 12:00 as well as 9:00 -> 12:00, sadly, this cannot be used vice versa. However, I just read on "Return of the Subtitle" That overlords can spot CC/Nexus without the enemy seeing the overlord. So, I set out to test this myself, and find an ideal position for the overlord on Python 1.3 where it is easily memorable where to place the overlord in such a fashion that it is "invisible" to the enemy.

From 12:00 to 3:00, place your overlord here

You can see them... and...

They can't see you!

You can get even slightly closer and actually see the command center clearer, but it is obviously riskier of getting spotted and also it's fine just to use minimap or cursor to see that there is in fact a building there

I have been having troubles finding an ideal location for the 6:00 to 9:00 overlord, but I as of yet, have found none. I have a replay where I do believe I did see the command center without it spotting me, but I cannot replicate it, and of course, if it is not easily replicable, it is not going to be used in games. I would appreciate if someone could find it! I believe that the spotting techniques from the top left and bottom left work, however from the top right and bottom right I couldn't find any when I was testing.

I have had only 2 instances where it was actually able to work from the right side of the CC, and I don't know why it doesn't work from those angles. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this short blog.

after i start my pylon, I usually send a probe to that corner for an overlord for a split second, and when I come knocking at their front door, they accuse me of hacking.

Many good players do the same on python, it doesn't do much.

Hell, even goodfriend builds a supply at an adjacent corner to see an overlord come by.

Yes you cannot see what tech they are doing but of course you could just send a drone out which is something that many Zergs do normally or you could just back off and then head to their natural, especially if they are protoss they will FE a lot and there aren't many variations of FE. The best situation to use this I think is when you know your opponent pretty well and are fairly sure what they are doing, and you can just scout just in case which a drone.

Most terrans on python make a depot at the side because of this.

Omg you don't need to _learn_ an exact place where to fly with your overlord...
