Damn blasted Linksys wrt54g, I got it today, and hooked it up, all lights working. I used the CD to set it up, since I am lazy and all. First issue: did not connect to internet, then it wouldn't detect the modem. Odd. I did it manually then, going into the router without the DSL modem into the WLAN.
192.168.1.1.
I have went into dos and released/renewed the IP. Nada, wouldn't work it my way. I have tried many things, hmph, I am totally stump now, anyone into hardcore networking want to give me some advice? A friend of mine said it is the router and that it's faulty.

does going into the router setup work, typing 192.168.1.1 into ie?
Things to try: Try a static ip Make sure dhcp is enabled on the router if your using a dynamic ip restart the modem after its hooked up if you havent Make sure modem is connected to the correct ethernet port Try a wire if your using wireless

I did all that, except the static IP, what does that do? Step by step please? And typing 192.168.1.1 went into the linksys, doesn't mean it works.

yeah that means theres connectivity between the router and computer, i doubt the static ip would help right now, its usefull for forwarding ports, etc.
Im not really sure what the problem could be, everything seems to be set up correctly, it could be the router like your friend said

You said you tried releasing and renewing the ip in dos, have you tried releasing it under the router menu? On my router there is a setting to release and renew the ip via the router setup menu. That might be what you have to do.
And maybe go under network connections in windows, click the connection and select repair. seems stupid but you never know..

Yes, you are referring to status, I don't know what I did but now, I am connected through the router, well, modem too, it's the initial setup. Do you have the same router as I do? If you do, answer me this, in front of the router, there is the power LED, on the left of it says "Cisco Systems" what does this button do? I have clicked on it before and sometimes it would flicker.

Ah, then it cannot be my router that is having the issue, I'm still using the CD at this very moment to configure, if all else fails I'd have to call Verizon tech for help(and everyone knows how much help THAT would be).
edit - What keeps happening with "Linksys - EasyLink Advisor" is that, it keeps saying EasyLink Advisor could not detect your router. Ugh.

Okay, I have changed the IP into .2.1 instead of .1.1 since my modem conflicted with it, and now it works. The CD that came with it is fucking worthless, thanks for reading, I think I know what to do now.

about questions about routing, one of my computers uses a router for wireless connection but I cant seem to browse the internet. Every time I try and load a page, it loads really slowly and often just times out. Funny thing is that games work perfectly on the comp, SC, DOTA, CS etc. but I cant browse the internet very efficiently, except for youtube. wtf?
|
Wow, that's odd, I've never experienced that... sounds like you have the ports for the games, is port 80/82 blocked? I think those are for http's.
|
I dunno, if they are, how do i unblock them?
|
Go into your router 192.168.1.1 user: should be left blank, not a modem, password: admin. There should have some TCP port or whatever in it, I've never experienced with this but you could try that.
