Until today, I had never been tempted to create a blog because I find the concept quite self-centered. But then I thought it would be good to make one at TL.net to discuss about programming (yeah, the one with an R which is about C++ and Java, not about that guys in KeSPA ;p ) and StarCraft so people might have another point of view on this specific part of the SC community.
So. First things first, a little presentation of the author. Considering the average age of the gaming communities is around 22-23, I am an old man. I've recently turned 30 and I am having more and more trouble to explain people what progaming is about. Because really, a 30-year-old man that still PLAYS GAMES ? What the hell ? -_-; I am deeply convinced that e-sports' credibility suffers a lot from the vocabulary : "game", "play", etc... This tends to give a childish connotation to this domain which is indeed made for adults and not children. But that's another subject I'll talk about in a next post.
So I'm old. What else ? I'm French, live in Paris with my GF in a big nice apartment and I'm quite happy with my life. I play a lot of volleyball (2-3 times a week) and my GF doesn't play video games, which doesn't let me much time to play. But she's really understanding and "allows" me play time on weekends and I also try to play between 11pm and 3am on week days -_-;
Now about the programming part. Since my childhood and my first computer (Amstrad CPC 6128 FTW !@#), I've always liked programming. Finding logical ways to make tools to ease people's life was both fun and challenging so I naturally oriented my studies in that way until I graduated as an IT engineer in year 2000. I've been a programmer since then, both as a job and a hobby. I've had plenty of occasions to realize that programming as a job had little to do with programming as a hobby... so in order to forget my frustration I've always programmed in my spare time : small websites, small utilities, bigger utilities... that has allowed me to learn different technologies than the ones I needed for my job and I like to think I'm pretty versatile (though I'm not a "know-it-all" nerd).
Now you should have a better overview of the guy. For my qualities and flaws (not sure it's the right words here... I mean "pros and cons", dunno the exact English words), I'd say I'm quite nice, friendly, rather generous, modest (hopefully) but I'm also grumpy, "beary" (I like to stay home, in front of my computer, like any good ol' nerd or a bear in its cave ) and I can hold a grudge for a pretty long time. Oh and I'm lazy too, don't like houseworks (cleaning rooms, etc... -_-; ).
That should be about it ! :D
