I posted this (and I hang out mostly) on liquiddota, but some people here who are in to game dev and tabletop dev might like it.
The idea
I’ve been working on a larger deck building game for a while but this project came in to shape pretty quickly. The challenge was to make a tight / snappy feeling strategy game with only 18 cards. I honestly started with “Starcraft feel in 18 cards”, but obviously that’s a pretty lofty thing to try to live up to.
I wanted something that had hints of strategy / tcg themes — like aggression, card advantage, board manipulation, control, hand management, and so on. I wanted to make something that doesn’t require mental upkeep or board fiddliness — so there’s no tokens, no resource spending/tracking, etc. Instead, cards operate on a threshold system that keeps information on the board all the time.
So I’ve been working on this design for the past year or so pretty intensely and I launched it yesterday on Kickstarter. It’s trending really quickly and it’s doing well. It’s completely free to play, you just have to print and sleeve 18 cards.
If you wanna try it, you can find it here.
In general:
Ore-based builds will generate a lot of offensive punch.
Labour-based builds will generate card advantage.
Ion-based builds will generate board control.
The game is turn based and plays pretty quick, but you’ll need a few games to figure out the cards and the flow back and forth. It’s supposed to be a quick game to play at the bar or over coffee or something, but with enough meat to be satisfying.
Are there any tabletop devs here that would wanna chat? Thought I’d reach out to the old stomping grounds.
