Well, after more than 4 years since I finished it the week it came out in 2012, I just remembered this game. From time to time I get the urge to replay a game I've long since finished, most of these urges fail to materialize as I usually reinstall, fool around for maybe an hour or so and then exit the game and pretty much drop it off for something else, usually Hearthstone these days.
However, there's something else in ME3 that draws me in: Hope. I somehow hope that all that DLC they have released after that....abomination of an ending maybe made it a little better and that I will enjoy the game with a second playthrough.
I really liked ME1, it got me hooked to this universe. I absolutely loved ME2 so much, I finished it 5 times and I enjoyed every minute of it. One thing I really like with replaying a game is how the learning/mastering process of the game affects my actions in the new playthrough. How optimized/different my builds/actions/decisions become and how this affects my overall gameplay for that particular playthrough. I really, really enjoy this. In RPG games, there is the added bonus of knowing how the story/dialogues turn out to, and this lets me tinker and experiment with other options in a second playthrough and see all the game has to offer. One game I haven't done this yet is Witcher 3, I have waited all this time for DLCs to get released so I can finish them all and play 2nd time with NG+, however it will just have to wait until I finish Blood and Wine.
Anyway, did this with DA:I as well. 5 playthroughs. I was able to track how quickly I finished the main campaign, and I realized it took me 10 hours shorter in my 5th run compared to my first run. And after 5 playthroughs, I pretty much saw everything except maybe some dialogues or combinations I have not tried because none of them fits how I like playing characters in RPGs.
So now, ME3...I finished this on March 2012 and never picked it back since then. I remember parts of it (actually most of it) was pretty fun and it had some really cool missions. The final mission was setting up to be another suicide mission, with more emphasis on suicide this time. I was ready to fail and sacrifice myself, die in the defense of the Earth. What happened instead? Some hologram child, different coloured explosions and some unexplained, confusing bullshit about Reapers, cycles, organics, synthetics etc...I was so disappointed, I felt like all that great time I spent with ME2 was for nothing. It made me angry and depressed for something like a week after.
Will I enjoy it with all the DLCs they have released it now, after 4 years? Would it be worth it? I guess I cannot know without trying.

I played after they patched the ending and found it a generic ending that worked.

i played ME1 for a bit and i dont really like "mission stuff" or walking around or shooting gameplay (i just walk up to them shooting and die). by contrast i played FFX for like 24 hours straight coz you don't need to do anything except afk listen to the story and press an arrow key every blue moon
but i played it with the mindset that you were like a star trek crew and it was pretty fun that way. i might load it up again now you reminded me and i finished FFX . i think i closed it coz i went to a "mission" planet and that's a big no for me (idk where to go and just get bored and quit)
same with FFX2 it just screams "missions" to me so i uninstalled it after 2 hours

OP: I played ME3 after patch and didn't hate the ending. Don't rewatch this until you play through but there's a side by side comparison of the endings, fundamentally they're the same, but they just explain a little more about what happens to the galaxy after the events. http://kotaku.com/5921569/mass-effect-3s-expanded-ending-now-with-more-closure
I'm a lot like you with BioWare RPGs, starting with KOTOR which I played many times through. I've probably played ME2 through about 6 times on max difficulty with most classes, and DA:Origins maybe 4 times through. I just love the combat and customization in both. (I had DA:I for the Xbox360 and it was just a pain to play on there, I'll wait until I update my rig to play that one)

same with FFX2 it just screams "missions" to me so i uninstalled it after 2 hours 2 and 3 have great gameplay and it's not just shooting, it's cover, special abilities, and squad tactics. The draw of those games is the story and gameplay, there's some exploration but it's very limited.
1 is a little more open ended with what you are supposed to / can do in the game as far as each individual planet goes...exploring the planets was pretty fun to me overall. But ultimately it's a linear story with side quests that don't affect the main story (which is not necessarily bad). The combat is not as good, I couldn't really go back to 1 after 2 and 3.

As much as DotA is THE game of my life, Mass Effect stands out to me as my favorite franchise ever. I, too have played ME2 five-six times.
ME3 is better with patches, take it from me.

I can't really comment on the patches because, just like you I beat it in the week it came out and never really went back to it. ME2 is definitely the best of the three. But IIRC ME3 was not a bad game at all, only the last ~25 minutes sucked.
Also, this topic made me do a google search about Mass Effect: Andromeda =3

The expanded ending keeps all the nonsense in. It mostly just adds slides and voiceover, which reflect your choices throughout the series and gives a sense of closure. Literally the only glaring problem, which was fixed is the Normandy leaving the planet it's stranded on; citadel, star child, the three endings all still in.
The biggest bonus you get out of the DLC is the citadel dlc, which provides with some very touching scenes with your squadmates and honestly feels like an epilogue, but in the end the ending is still ahead and you have to play it before the cerberus HQ at the latest.
However, I can heartily recommend the MEHEM-mod http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/66/?tab=2&navtag=http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/ajax/modfiles/?id=66&pUp=1
(I specifically linked to the files-section, as the description spoils what exactly is changed and you may not want to know this beforehand)
it really fixed the ending for me. Though happy ending isn't really accurate, it's very bittersweet. All of the nonsense is gone as well.

The Citadel DLC is a lot of fun. Cheesy, campy and full of clichés, but still so much fun. Omega's not bad either, but I've replayed ME3 like 6 times just for the Citadel DLC.

ME3 was salvaged by the DLCs, but I didn't find it as great as ME2. Combat wise, ME3 felt extremely easy, whereas ME2 it could pose a challenge, but lacked customization compared to ME3.
Ending battle, ME2 felt far more dramatic compared to ME3.

I'll check it out again I think. Can't remember whether I finished the game with the savegame I imported from my final ME2 Insanity Infiltrator.

Ending battle, ME2 felt far more dramatic compared to ME3. I liked the combat in ME3. Aside from Vanguard Charge-Nova spamming, you actually had to think about things and deal with enemies in different ways. ME2 you could treat basically every enemy the same way. Things like Guardians, smoke bombs, and the fact that enemies actually use grenades to get you out of cover and try to flank you make combat a much more dynamic experience in ME3.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the ending, and more importantly, if it wasn't for the fact that your choices in the game and all previous games were reduced to an ultimately meaningless number, ME3 would have been an improvement to the previous games in almost every way.
