Time flies so quick that it dawned on me today that TI6 is commencing in less than 24 hours from now. I channeled my hype and decided to make a video on the teams that are playing at this year's event with a mention of the wildcard qualifiers. I have been so busy with my university studies that I haven't had much time to play Dota but I still kept track of the recent tournaments and updates. The Summit 5 was quite amazing to watch and SL i-league even more so because of the appearance of TEAM SECRET for the first time in quite some time. Got to hand it to Na'Vi though for being such a strong team at the moment and not letting their failures define their future.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the vid and any constructive feedback will be more than welcome.
you're very well pronounced, i mean speaking wise. i haven't been playing very much also, but have been watching and talking a lot with some players. for me, it's always very difficult to see why some heroes are picked over others or to really understand the drafting table. then teams start picking Ursa > ES > ALCH > Sven > LS > Invoker > Mirana > Drow, and the rest is history. it's very much about trends. i would have liked to have seen your video on predicitions maybe as group stages settle and teams get seeded into brackets. aside from that, your own graphics would really make your video great.
who is your favourite? etc. it's really hard to say, again, with the trends being as they are, but one team has to break the meta and make it their own.

Thanks for the feedback! I am working on acquiring a better PC and some good editing software so I can improve the quality of the visuals and other stuff.
Yes it is astounding to see how some heroes can just suddenly become popular again with reasons that are not so apparent to us as viewers. I like to think that I understand Dota to a certain degree but the meta is often unpredictable and it is only within that framework of the meta that one can try to make sense of the game. One hero I also have to add to your list is Terrorblade and Luna, both who have seen a rise in popularity.
About the predictions, yes, it is very hard to predict the standings for this year as the level of play is just so much more "standardized" among the teams. What I mean is that most of the teams playing this year are good in their own right and can pull off something great given the opportunity. I shy away from making predictions because I'd rather watch the tournament unfold and enjoy it regardless of the outcome.
Btw I am a huge Team Secret fan, whom I regard to be Cloud 9 2.0 at this moment.
I think it's hard to predict the trends in large part because teams themselves don't fully understand things. It's simply impossible to practice with or against every hero in the pool so you naturally pick around certain heroes that you know how to play and perhaps more importantly you understand how to pick around them and how to respond when the enemy picks something. Then some team has success with a hero, other teams pick up on that, start either picking it themselves or favoring heroes that serve as a counter, and perhaps find something that works in a more general sense.
Also quite a bit of the feeling of how strong a hero is in a specific situation probably comes from scrims and pubs the players play, which the large majority of viewers don't really follow. Something that happened at Summit and SL pick wise may be completely different at TI already if teams have seen something being badly countered in scrims.

One good example of this is Riki and Earth Spirit. I remember that it took quite a while for support Riki to become a thing after he was introduced to Captain's Mode. Some players, Misery especially, commented on how they encountered these types of heroes more and more in pubs and saw its effectiveness. It is like you stated, that more "private" games such as pubs and scrims do not hold much value to the average viewer of big tournaments. It is in places such as these, for instance in NEL, where more experimentation occurs and players eventually pick up on the effectiveness of a certain playstyle for a hero.
sure, and of course there's ET, PHX, Wisp, and etc. if we went back, there was a lina pick every game.
it's interesting to me how these heroes came about and got decided on and it all adds investment to watching pro-games. even now while i watch public lobby games when i get a chance to, you start to notice things and wonder if they'll do them in officials. Envy for example wasn't a player who was secretive about that stuff. he'll spam the heroes he's interested in. i'll give one more example, miracle, notail, arteezy often love to make new builds or try them on in their matchmaking games, of course, to test effectiveness and in a serious environment. it feels that time is becoming a greater and greater resource to all these players.
anyway, i'm not sure what the purpose of creating content is for you, but it's certainly a good way to get discussion going and increase investment. so keep it up! everyone! it's good to have people to talk to about this stuff.
