I never got all As until 2010 at Community College. I would always have a B or two. I never really did my homework. Yeah I made it to state on Academic team but I started smoking weed at 16 and smoked it for 10 years. It wasn't until I quit smoking that I applied myself a few years ago in college and I just graduated with a 3.1 (Me continuously failing math classes is what dragged my GPA down)
I don't have a job. I was focusing on school and paying for it/living on student loans. My parents have been helping me all they can but they're not getting any younger. places like McDonalds or even a job washing dishes... anything like that.. I cant find the right one apparently because they wont call me back. WalMart, Lowes, nothing. They don't like that I have misdemeanors (all stemming from weed)
Is it ironic I quit smoking and now theyre trying to legalize it everywhere? haha. it's stupid but at least if they do make it more "open" my criminal record won't even look bad. I need to go down and get all of it expunged off my record. I haven't been in trouble in around 5 years. It will be 5 years in a couple months.
There really aren't any opportunities around here and for some reason... the minimum seems to be a Bachelor's degree so my Associate's might just be wasted paper and I completely wasted my time going to school.. but at least I graduated. I'm not going to feel bad for my entitlement. I guess the moral of the story is it's a business's market not an employees market right now considering I haven't found a single job that the requirement is an Associate's degree that isn't an unpaid internship in a big city like New York or Chicago.
Im trying to get any job I can right now and then work on getting a job where I can actually get a salary on a payroll. I could go to ASU and take classes online getting my Bachelors fairly cheap. I've already got like 80-90 credit hours. However, I will probably not do the ASU thing until I finish up my 2nd Associates because I only need to pass College Algebra to get my Associates in Science. Having 2 Associates will give me the opportunity to pursue better degrees later on If I want to do that. I'm also considering getting a certificate in something, like Medical Transcription, where I type over 80 WPM and I'm pretty familiar with medical Jargon due to my dad
I don't really have a plan, only some things I want would like to do. When I get a good chunk of money I'm going to play the stock market. I'm smart enough, and good enough at poker/gambling to figure it out. I've casually studied it enough to feel comfortable investing without giving my money to a broker. That is something I see happening more when I'm older, though, not as someone who is nearing 30 with student loan debt and an associates or two
What do you think I should do? I need a New Year's Resolution and a solid goal/plan

What associate degree did you get? What did you envision yourself doing for your career? What kind of experience do you have?
From what I can tell, you've only got an Associate and you got no/little experience. Not only that, you're 30 and in this position. This will make the hiring manager think you've got no work ethic. Of course no one would like to hire you.
My advice for you is to go ask your friends and relatives if they know anyone who's hiring for an entry level position. You need to get started and prove that you're better than what's on your resume.
You're not going to make a living off investing unless you got millions in the bank. So don't even think about it now.

I' m very interested in what kind of activities you did to stop smoking after 10 years... it would help me a lot to get some insight on this, care to elaborate?

Well I have a math degree and really can't find anything other than your run of the mill IT work (and no I don't want to teach). Can't really offer any words of encouragement other than you might get lucky one day.

yo it's kushm4sta lol i also smoked alot of weed.
dude you should do one of those coding bootcamp things. It's like 18? weeks then after that you make 100k a year.
Getting a cheap bachelors isn't a bad idea but make sure it is a valuable bachelors. While you are in school, make sure you get an internship. Then finding a job will be easy as long as you are willing to relocate.
Also what the hell is your associates in... aren't associates degrees usually designed to be more job oriented?

Have you looked for contractor positions? It isn't the best work in the world, but it would get your foot in the door potentially for a career with a larger company.I did that for Target answering phones in their Fraud department shortly after leaving school and eventually got hired by Target Proper. Could be an avenue for you. I don't know what I assume AZ's landscape would be like for that though.

besides very specific fields, an associate by itself is pretty much useless. it is primarily meant as a cheap alternative to the first two years of college, which is just relearning hs shit.
unless you give off the vibe of a total dumbass, most restaurants will hire you in some capacity. show up, ask maner what the deal is, stress you wanna work. they will probably still direct you to an online application i am sure but at least you have a face attached to your name now.
