Some of you may remember how hard I wanted to get into a PhD (see previous blog: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/477781-journey-towards-phd-first-punch). I can now tell you all that I DID IT
After my US round went pretty bad, I decided to look at other destinations that I had not considered, due to distance and proficiency. I was positively surprised to discover that Australia and New Zealand have some pretty good professors and programmes, as far as my research path is concerned.
I gave it a try and ended up being accepted into two of them! University of Tasmania and University of Victoria (Wellington, NZ). My favourite programme was the latter and they e-mailed me last night saying I got an offer.
I have to say that since I got the Tasmania offer, I could afford to be way more relaxed in the NZ waiting and now I'm really super, super super happy! I will probably leave around November 20th.
I also want to use this as an occasion to ask: are there any Team Liquid people in New Zealand/do you guys have any tips/stories about living in Wellington? I will be quite lonely during the first months and some (nerdy) friends would be cool!
TL;DR: I am moving to New Zealand for a PhD in November. Any tips about living there?

Ahahah thanks everyone!
I will do research in philosophy of religion, in particular molinism/future contingents.
In 1-2 months I should know more about accomodation etc. I will report back so maybe we can arrange to meet somehow

Studied in NZ for a semester and in my view it was kind of expensive compared to europe (at least compared to Germany). Man those beer prices almost killed me. But also other stuff like vegetables and chicken (chicken is like 12€ per kilo) Make sure to travel around in the country when you find some time, it is as beautiful as everyone says. You can basically find amazing places everywhere!

Once you get a PhD, every meeting you go to becomes a doctor's appointment (c)
