Hello! I'm Sakat. I'm 21 years old, and I haven't really played SC2. Ever. My brother got it about a year ago, and played it for a little. I never really had interest in playing this type of RTS. I do follow the e-sports scene of SC2 since 2013 Blizzcon though. I mostly played Total War, and even then, I auto-resolved most of the battles (loading times in Total War are disgusting). So, my brother moved out a few weeks ago, and left all of his games to me. I never play any of them, but last week I decided to try out SC2 for the first time. After few games as random, I picked Zerg.
Let's just say, it didn't end well. I won some games, mostly due to cheesy all-in builds like ling flood in ZvZ and baneling bust in ZvT. Still have no idea how to beat Protoss. I only won one game vP, and that was because my opponent stayed on 1 base for 25 minutes and never built any workers. I'm quite slow, at most 30 APM. I mostly just get rekt all the time by ex plat and diamond players in bronze (I have no idea what they are doing there), but for some reason, I enjoy playing this game very much. I even enjoy the losses. I have a bit of ladder anxiety, but I play 3-5 games daily because I don't really have time to play more, and I split my time between SC2 and Shogun 2. I hope to get better at this game soon.

I enjoyed reading this blog and I enjoy you.

Ladder anxiety should fade away the more you play the game and the more comfortable that you get with playing any race and against builds. The only problem that can get bigger with "the more you play" is worry too much about how many ladder points you lose when you lose a game. Keep having fun and you will find that you enjoy the game more.

Thanks a lot ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
It's all about having fun, right?

Once you start playing for fun and not to win, anxiety will go away.

Just don't let some aspects of the game get into your head. Sometimes you'll lose, because you fucked up ONE thing. (like a missed overlord or a bad force field.) As long as you're not blaming the game for your losses, you're fine. Getting anxious is normal, because losing is a stressful experience and you brain tells you that you MIGHT lose. Just don't listen to your brain before you click that "PLAY" button.

Blaming the game, as in "balance" or what?
I think that's an idiotic mentality. SC2 is awesomly balanced compared to some other games. In RTW romas were so overpowered that they could kill an army almost triple it's value.

It's about having fun with learning to become a better player/gamer.

Well this is refreshing. We don't get a lot of "I'm in Bronze League and I'm really enjoying SC2" posts much anymore.
Anyways, good luck with your journey! Just enjoy playing and focus on making a lot of units .

those explat and diamonds had ladder anxiety
as a result they are now playing in bronze to overcome that anxiety

i hope you continue enjoying teh game.. its great fun. i've never been higher than #1 in Diamond and i have 5,000 games under my belt.
i am 27. i play 2v2s with a project manager that i work for on occasion.... and she is in her 40s. the highest we've ever been as a team is diamond.
the woman i'm speaking of has been in gold at her best in 1v1s. she loves the game and spends most of her time in Silver league.
we have resigned ourselves to the fact taht we will lose teams of 15 year olds who've only been playing the game for 6 months. we have also resigned ourselves to the fact that we'll lose to teenagers in 1v1 games when they've only been playing the game a few months.
we don't care.. we still have fun.

I actually think RTS games really shine when players have like 30apm. When you're that slow you're spending a lot of time thinking about the game. Even up to 90apm the game is like that.
Once people get up to 200 - 300 apm, many are just going through the motions and making very slight adjustments to strats they've seen and done countless times. Only some very special players really still think about the game at that point, in terms of strategy rather than just optimization. Even players at 130 apm can be very robotic and predictable. But low apm players are full of surprises, and when they play each other, their cunning plans have time to come to fruition.

Ladder anxiety in nonsense created by people who need a billion excuses why they are lazy to play - and in turn hurting people like you. I bet you would never come up with the concept if you haven't heard it somewhere.
Stay cool, the matchmaking will eventually give you players at the exact right level and you will get some good games. Also if you play more, you will probably quickly rise from 30 APM, it comes really naturally.
And don't ever think that you are bad or good, just play the game and have fun. I have played almost 5000, FIVE THOUSAND games of SC2 and have still never been more than Plat in 1v1, still think the game is awesome.

I played a guy who did something like 6-gate zealot preassure followed by proxy DTs. That was really smart because I thought he was all-in, and defended the zealots with roaches, decided to march across the map, but had no Lair and spores so just lost to DTs. Smart guy.

I also really like watching players play a game before they've discovered all the strategies - you get to see so many intuitive, yet not totally effective builds/plays.
Also it's great to just see people enjoying SC2. :D

Hate to break it to you but its not nonsense. I was so scared to play that my hands would shake uncontrollably, I couldn't even press the keys properly and I lost my game pretty badly. Most times I had a deep fear before playing any game. Similar things happened to my brother. But apparently you can casually dismiss countless numbers of people sharing their personal experiences as just "made up excuses" without any evidence whatsoever. Its probably silly to you, but I don't get how you can assume that everyone else who had a different experiences is purposely lying without any reasoning or evidence at all.
Anyway at least you're enjoying the game. I think I was just too annoyed by how many times you can lose to cheese that is extremely difficult to scout (especially with low APM like yours). But this was back in the earlier days of SC2. Maybe its different now but I doubt by much. If you can handle all of that and enjoy the game more power to you!

Nice to see some positivity on here for once!
But I love your mentality. I did both my placements for HotS and LotV, and for both those games it started me at bronze and then worked me up to gold after a few wins, and Bronze League is the fucking Wild West. You'll have a lot more fun in silver
