so last week i modded skyrim with 80 mods and got some pretty sick results.

my computer machine was intel duo 3.0ghz with the excellent radeon hd 4800 that came out 6-7 years ago

i played bioshock 3 not too long ago and thought it was fabulously gorgeous but other than that i've dodged modern games because they are all this fetchquest brainless shit . so my experience with "modern graphics" is pretty limited .

my hardware is a little dated so i'm used to playing at 30fps or much less and that is a totally normal experience for me

so hearing good things about twitcher 3 i thought i'd give it a bash. unfortunately it wasn't coded to run on my graphics card so it was finally time for me to upgrade and i bought the radeon r9 280x for £170

loading up twitcher 3 my mind was literally blown, i have never seen anything like it in my life apart from in movies, and i mean movies like FF: Advent Children which are top notch

seeing such insanely high res textures, lighting and everything fucking moving individually in the wind was utterly mindblowing, the thing i have dreamed of since like 15 years ago

today i went and got crysis 3 working and it is fucking insane too. like they want me to go and shoot people but i just want to chill out and sit down in the grass or on this old couch that i accidently power kicked out the window and i was like nooo my couch r o f l

we really are hitting a new generation of graphics at long last!!! i can't wait until an mmo implements them.

remember i am running DUO core (now overclocked to 3.3ghz) and running these games on ULTRA (turned off in some screenshots) . if you are comfortable with 16-34 fps (crysis 3) or 27-33 fps (twitcher 3) then i can't urge you enough to try out these games even on your 7 year old machine (upgrade your graphics card tho). it is completely mindblowing!!!!

PS U NEED TO CLICK THE IMAGES TO SEE THE ACTUAL DETAIL (1 of them wont work tho . and they are converted to jpeg so lost quality)

noticed my post processing isn't appearing in the twitcher 3 screenshots so here's some more, using fraps (will update later with more). i do like the original colouring but this bloom gives everything a smoother and more realistic edge without being too vibrant or colourful (the game looks great morbid). i think this mod is the Perfect Vision mod http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/62/? i've tried a few different colour settings and this one is just perfect imo

Quite cool read, really nice to "see" how excited you are after upgrading your GPU and seeing how gorgeous some games can be. Have fun!

witcher 3 is absolutely gorgeous, and a great game to boot.

it's weird, i can still look at vanilla oblivion screenshots and say "yeah, i can see how that was really pretty back in the day," and in the same day look at your witcher 3 screens.. Hell, I used to think vanilla WoW was gorgeous (although I still do, I loved old WoW's aesthetic).

look i found fraps was taking 600mb videos every time i was going to take a screenshot lol

i tried to make a gif out of one of them but the gif makers resize them to look small

another sick thing i remembered was that water has momentum . so like when you're walking in water you can make waves/ripples that spread over more ground depending on the force you apply to it. or something. the water will literally flow over more terrain if you push it there with your feets

Welcome to high end from three and a half years ago. Our flagship cards are more than twice as fast now, and that's in an era of slow GPU performance upgrades since we've been on 28nm from the very start of 2012 until probably 2016

also you're probably cpu bound to hell in at least some of those cases

Crysis 3 in particular. That's the grass that is extremely CPU intensive.

On top of that there are a few settings with relatively little visual impact that cost 1/3'rd of your FPS on many games

And hey, vanilla WoW -WAS- gorgeous!

Witcher 3 is so hype that I wonder if people playing it actually played witcher 1&2. It may look good but it's so much about story and characters. And you will miss %98 of it without playing 1&2.
