Although the work of Black Sun is behind me, I still hope I can one day build it the way it was meant to be. In Unreal exclusively. But I can't make characters. So even if I somehow figure out how the hell turrets would work in Unreal 4, which seems all but rocket science to me at the best of days, I still can only make half a project.
I don't even have a good material to tile on these for these screenshots. So they kind of look like they've been caked in the tears of hipsters.
I don't even remember when I last tried to model a ship. It was a little over a year ago, wasn't it? I don't even remember how to model those anymore. But I'd basically need to remodel everything. They'd need a lot of detail to compensate for my inability to UV or texture. They show their age as assets being designed for the Sins engine.
Science.
These are sleepy days. No drive, no future, no past, just day after day of droning on and on hoping something changes. Nothing actually changes. Just getting the shit kicked out of me by nonstop anxiety attacks.
I've encountered a few peculiar things in Unreal 4. Like how Epic, for some reason, keeps using Nvidia AA solutions. FXAA isn't AA. It's some shitty bargain bin blur filter. Temporal AA is a disaster. The ghosting is horrible and the blur is ten times worse than FXAA. Neither of them actually address jaggies. I remember when we didn't worry about AA because AA just "worked" and there was no real performance hit. Now it's all post process junk that doesn't do its job and just ruins image quality. I find it weird how WoW has superior AA to fucking Unreal 4. Hopefully they fix that shit.
At least Epic knows how to make game-ready pines.
You know what else I find disgusting? The DDS format. DDS compression is atrocious. Horrible. Unforgivable. It makes normal maps such a mess.
As I deal predominately in assets yanked out of where ever, DDS compression is always in my way.
God, the step-laddering. I feel the calories burning just by looking at it. Also, the Tera developers had some really horrible seams in these static meshes. There's so many weird transitions with the normals that cause any direct lighting to produce those sharp edges. Emos, take note. Unfortunately, because I am a talentless neanderthal with no actual talent, I'm kind of stuck taking what I can get.
Okay. That's all for today. I am going to drink deep of this coffee and hope everything blows over.

I tossed a few of those voices (and some other takes) onto uub to update my very dated voice playlist.
