Ok, this is something I have wanted to do for a long time, but I have been extremely put off by it. The reason why is because I was always afraid of coding. I have tried learning it and I honestly find the solution creating process really fun, it's just I am always stuck on a brick wall. I have tried Unity and Unreal, but , A, my PC is garbage, B, I just couldn't figure out how to get started. Fast forward a few years and discovering extra credits I decided to take a crack at it again. I decided to take a crack at it with RPGmake VX Ace, I will say I haven't bought the full license . I have actually gotten a decent little thing going with it. I call the project "thing" because it isn't something I really want to release. It is just a prototype I guess. A playground for me to really learn and understand the damn thing. It is going fairly well. It is relatively intuitive. I just have to skim through a few tutorials, and I find out rather quickly how to use it. I am now at the point where I want to start figuring out what I want my game to actually be. Yes, it will be a Jrpg, but conceptually everything else... that lies where my question is. I have played some JRpgs, namely FFVI, so I understand how they mostly work, but I would like to have some advice about JRpg and game design. Either videos about designing them, experiences you have had deving or playing them, and honestly where to start. I mean its a JRpg and I can add custom systems to the game, but I am not sure where to start. Maybe story, mechanics, I just don't know. EC recommends start with a minimum viable product. Well, JRpg gotcha. The engine I am using already has that pretty much decided for me, but where to go from there is I don't fuckin know. If you have any suggestions, comments, answers, please type them up. I would really like to hear from all of you soon and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Generic JRPG.
Save the world from baddy. Recycle monsters.
Start out solo, bring in team mates as you go along.
Get better items as the game progresses.
Turn based combat in a different environment from the exploration map.

Bond with people? Be "team leader" and contribute wherever you can, find people for coding, graphics and sound. Make own game.

I remember being in the Half-Life modding scene, working with a group of people on a mod. Eventually I also ended up with another group of people working on our very own game (me doing 3d modelling back then). Neither of the two got finished though (team leader's job, in a sense)
