Hi guys, my name is Jae, and this is the part 2 of my customer service frustration blog.

So I ordered a textbook from B&N couple days ago, and clearly cancelled the first one before ordering the second one (identical books, but different duration rental), but B&N shipped + charged me for both books.

So I saved the chat here

He signed out on me. Is there anyway I can report this asshole? If I don't get a full refund, I'm going to complain that he made a false representation. He did not, from the beginning, want to give me a clear answer. He was clearly being passive aggressive saying stuff like "I already said that" Is there anyway I can save the chat room # or reference number of this log?

Actually, on the contrary, I didn't start giving him an attitude until he started being dodgy about the refund and tried to get me to pay the return fee. And other people would've been way more pissed from the beginning than I was, considering they got the order screwed up before the chat happened.

I gotta agree with the other two posters. I read the chat expecting to see Bernie be unreasonable or something but it seems I was wrong to expect that. It's one thing to be upset but he already said that you'll get the full refund then you had to ask it like three times except though he confirmed it. It's one thing if he said that yes, you'll be paying the return fee then I can see you rage a bit but when he was pretty reasonable and said you didn't have to.

On top of that, it felt like you were just aiming for confrontation and were even asking for a discount on the second book? Heck, even the email he sent you, you called him out on it only to receive it like a minute or two later so he wasn't lying or anything. Sorry but I sympathize with Bernie in this case.

Wow.

While I wouldn't go as far as the other posters and calling you a douchebag, I still mostly agree with their sentiment: I really don't see any reason for you to complain about Bernie. He was being polite, professional and helpful. And you gradually went from being a normal guy to being a fucking rage machine and threatening him.

This kind of stuff makes me think that working in retail must really be hell...

Things would have gone more smoothly if you weren't such an entitled and emotional customer. The best way to conduct the type of conversation you were having there is free of any emotion. If you are getting pissed you can rage at your monitor... but raging at Bernie is counterproductive. Also, your objective should have been to return the first book for free... not demand some specific additional discount. After you have successfully returned the first book for free, perhaps then you can ask for a discount or credit for you troubles.

Literally reading this at the start you already get shit wrong, it progresses to worse from there.

He already guaranteed you would receive a full refund, however he is obviously working in customer service and not doing the refunding directly, that means if there is any discrepancy he asked you to contact them so he can fix that with the warehouse, which is providing the refund, instead you become all emotional.

Then you demand a discount for your second book, which he cannot provide because as with most order systems you cannot retroactively change a past order, if you had been friendly he could possibly have given you a voucher if that was even within his capabilities.

People like you are why customer service employees become cynical assholes after trying to do a good job.

I hope your next twenty book orders arrive in an untimely or wrong fashion regardless of supplier so you'll have more chances to improve your consumer interactions.

Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.
