MTG Sealed: Self-Analysis #4 - I am bad.

EscPlan9 United States2777 Posts November 09 2014 18:25 GMT #1 This will be a two-in-one post. I'll revisit it later to give more detail. My record for these phantom sealed events have been abysmal. The majority of my won rounds are from the opponent not showing up (freebies), that's how bad it is. I just cannot get my handle on building a good sealed deck in this format. If I really want to dedicate to getting better at sealed, I feel like I should either: 1) Buy a booster box (36 boosters) and separate each 6 boosters into six different "sealed pools". Try to build the best deck from each and play them against each other and see what cards stood out. This will be very time intensive and laborious playing against myself the whole time too. 2) Find someone else locally who would be interested in this endeavor - splits the cost of the booster box, and we can give each other feedback on the decks built from the pools, and the gameplay will be a lot more interesting. 3) Or just keep practicing and studying and over time expect to improve. I'll slowly bleed away some money (6 tix or 10 phantom points per event) in the process, but it's still a few hours of fun for cheap or free. ZigguratOfUr Iraq16955 Posts November 09 2014 18:40 GMT #2 Your second picture of the second sealed deck, shows your whole pool, not the remainder of the pool. I also disagree with splashing red for arc lightning. It isn't worth it splashing a fourth colour for a single card unless that card is a complete bomb which arc lightning is not.

EscPlan9 United States2777 Posts November 09 2014 20:00 GMT #3 My bad, that was the entire pool. Arc Lightning is totally worth splashing for when it's basically free with the rest of your fixing. Hell, I probably didn't even need to play that basic mountain with it. You will get plenty of 2 for 1s or even 3 for 1s with it to be worthwhile. I strongly disagree with not splashing Arc Lightning here.

ZigguratOfUr Iraq16955 Posts November 09 2014 21:40 GMT #4 Running arc lightning causes you to run three lands that you otherwise wouldn't run, and I'd value having a higher likelihood to hit Anafenza turn three over having a strong card that could be a dead card on the off chance that you get the wrong lands in your hand. Especially when you can have viable cards that you can run instead, like Feat of Resistance. Maybe I'm wrong. I haven't played a ton of Khans sealed.
