So I got to college a few days ago and decided I would go play a few games of sc2 to take my mind off of the change in my environment. Before I did that, however, I surfed TL. I came across some thread that linked to some thread on the battle.net forums, and I logged into my battle.net account to post on that thread.
That was a huge mistake.
A few minutes later, I got an email from blizzard saying:
Greetings, Blizzard has locked the Battle.net account [email removed] due to an unusual change in its access pattern. If you recently changed your connection pattern, you can unlock your account with a simple password reset. Visit the Password Reset page to begin the process. The form can also be reached by clicking “Can’t log in” on any Battle.net login page. If you did not recently change your connection pattern, someone else may have attempted to access your account using your password. We encourage you to follow our security checklist to secure your computer, and then performing a Password Reset to unlock access. Once you’ve regained access, consider adding Battle.net SMS Protect, a free service that allows you to quickly recover your Battle.net account using a mobile device. For more information, see the SMS Protect FAQ. Regards, Blizzard Entertainment http://battle.net/support
Being completely naive, I figured that it would be a short and painless process to verify my account and change my password with the link they gave me to reset my password. I clicked on it, typed in my email, and then I got to the security question:
"When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?"
This turned out to be a very difficult stage in the procedure. You see, I was thirteen years old when I made this brilliant question up, and I have no idea what the damn answer is. At age 13, I had previously been interested in several school subjects, basketball, and teaching. I tried every combination of these that I could think of, except for "Basketball teacher", in addition to capitalization and the word A. None of them worked. I kept getting emails saying my account was locked. Not helpful, Blizzard.
Five days later, I wandered around my profile settings and got to the technical support page. They had everything except for anything related to security questions. I then tried filling out a ticket. I had multiple drop-down menus to describe my problem, and after describing my problem as being on my SC2 account, pretty much all I could say about my problem was "other".
And then I filled out the ticket describing my problem. 10 minutes later, out of desperation, I tried going to my account and changing my password through account settings.
And it worked. No security question required.
And now my account is unlocked. Thanks Blizzard! It was very necessary to make sure the change in IP was legit.

I think having an authenticator lets you skip all the location change BS as long as it's attached and you have it with you. Glad you aren't boned.

If you bought a physical copy of the game the first 10 digits of your key will let you unlock an account that was suspended because of the dumb IP shenanigans.

I guess you can't use the live chat CS if you're not logged in, right? I use the live chat whenever I can because they have solved all my issues so far, super fast and very friendly, even when I didn't remember my sec. question answer.

If you have an authenticator attached to your account, instead of locking it when you log in from a different IP you will just have to input an authenticator code.

This totally happened to me too once btw, accessing BNet forum from a university computer, and suddenly getting locked out, it's pretty frustrating and its purpose is questionable. Last time I did that shit.

Yeah, I don't know if playing a battlenet game has the same effect or not, but...

Title misleading, should be changed to: Blizzard locked my account (fixed) lol. Well, guess it's normal when you think about it. Glad you unlocked it though.
