Hello, world of TL and world of SC2!
For some reason, even though it has been quite a while since it came out, I still haven't bought HotS. but my love for Starcraft is rekindled! And IveReturned! (Not really, the time I returned was quite a bit ago. But I can safely say that I am less retarded nowadays.)
So let's get to the point, I came back about 3 weeks ago and found out that Starcraft Youtube, instead of what I remember back then, is a mess. I used to love HD and Husky and they seem to be long gone, and day9tv is a billion videos to sort through, Even though I watched him like crazy between first days of WoL and something around #500, I simply cannot get in, save for Funday Monday.
What happened? I found myself forcing my soul to sort through the tedium of streams, and it is bad. It contains much less of what got me to watching Starcraft in the first place.
What is that?
The hecticness! Up until the late stages of WoL everything I touched for media was crazy new, and even the first days of Kespa leagues, with Flash and all, and their crazy new maps were amazingly fresh. The content I watched were sorted through and exciting, with remembertomorrow0 instead of Destiny's stream and the other youtubers which I had gotten used to and fondly remember nowadays. I can easily say I had a whopping 1,5k hours of Starcraft videos and tourney streams sucked into my brain.
And today, after two/three weeks of my "HotS journey reloaded", I watched the WCS EU, and some streamers. There wasn't anything else for me. The streamers got their usual(high) winrates and it was not all that exciting. MC is not as fun in his own house. WCS, meh. Back then I never needed to watch livestreams except those massive LAN's(after Quarter Finals) and SPL. I barely bothered to watch small tourneys, except showmatches. But nowadays there is a problem. I can no longer perceive which event is big, which one is medium and which one is, from my "busy lifestyle" standpoint, not really worth watching. I feel like I am watching all these streamers for the last three weeks just to save Starcraft, rather than my personal enjoyment.
So how do we fix this!
I don't know. Ask yourself, ask yourself what is gone missing in these 4 years(though I already told you)
But what I also don't know is that, from a casual wieverpoint, I still don't understand how WCS works, apart from the cliché "2 children will be selected from each continent, and one will survive" statement, which I just made up based on Hunger Games. seriously, why did Demuslim and that noname play today, what for? And what the fuck are WCS points?
What I am trying to tell is that SC2 needs to consolidate. And also baby tier accesibility.
There is also this. The amazing idea was posted on reddit earlier. It got %100 upvotes so I guess it just went right below the radar. I think we need to adress this as a community. But I don't mean to put any time into it as work. Because I am a busy man with this evening as spare time.
Good day.

What I am trying to tell is that SC2 needs to consolidate. And also baby tier accesibility. This makes little sense. "Gaah, I'm confused by WCS, making stuff up, don't know this guy so he's a noname, I don't understand points. SC2 needs to get simpler for me to understand".
If you watched the days of WoL, GSL was sometimes more "complicated" than WCS is. If you want it to be dumbed down, it's as in most competitions, win to qualify, win more to earn more money. If you really want to understand, take a little time to read 2014 StarCraft II World Championship Series.
As for your amazing idea, as said in the reddit thread, it has already been done without great success. Saying "we should solve it" is the easy part, doing it and making it successful is a complete different thing.

In his defense, I don't get WCS either and it seems to have little value as a high level compettion. In that sense, if you're not already up to speed, it does kind of boil down to watching unknown players playing each other for unknown reasons.

What, so WCS is perfect?
Any retard could understand how Ti4 works, you're telling me I have to STUDY to figure out how WCS works???
A lot of people share the same sentiments, there is no use telling those people they are wrong, the response doesn't even make sense.
Ok so they're wrong, now what, you think suddenly those people are gonna want to watch SC2 now?
Yes GSL was sometimes more complicated than WCS, Budweiser is sometimes worse than Miller Light, doesn't mean I will drink either. What the hell happened to GSL anyways?

To understand how Ti4 worked, I read The International 2014. Granted, the WCS format is more complex, but I didn't feel like I studied to figure out how WCS worked.

Ok so they're wrong, now what, you think suddenly those people are gonna want to watch SC2 now? My main goal is not to say those people are wrong, it is to say what I genuinely think: that the WCS format is not that hard to understand. WCS could have a simpler format maybe, but it has to accommodate for a lot of players all over the world.
Yes GSL was sometimes more complicated than WCS, Budweiser is sometimes worse than Miller Light, doesn't mean I will drink either. What the hell happened to GSL anyways? GSL was not the best example, but I was just trying to relate to the fact that IveReturned loved the WoL days, so probably watched GSL with enjoyment (just a guess, I admit).
In the end, my reply was not the best, it was too aggressive instead of helpful, and I was blinded by my own personal opinion. Sorry for that.
