…but I don’t want them ANYWHERE near my video game experiences!
Let’s take a big knife and cut through this giant apple to the core of the issue; ladies, it’s time you took to your perfume room or dressing chamber or chaise-longue or whatever it is you do with your spare time and left eSports to the menfolk.
Be honest, have you ever lost to a girl at anything? Me neither. Unless it’s arguments about wallpaper patterns or curtains or what time the kids should stay up until or whether it’s ok to let them play with my shuriken collection. In which case – fair enough – that’s a ladies domain and you’re gonna lose. But whatever, it’s a shit domain. It’s like in a game where there’s a dude who is the King of a shithole and he’s like “THIS IS MY DOMAIN” and I want to say “that’s fine your domain is ass” but that dialogue option is never offered.
When I said “have you ever lost to a girl at anything” just then at the start of that paragraph by the way I was talking to the men reading this. Any women reading this will have lost to each other a TON because they have to play girl sports like netball and field hockey but I mean, a mouse would probably beat another mouse at a lifting contest, and that sure as heck doesn’t mean she could then go toe-to-tiny-toe with the Hulk, does it?
Just because a mouse – or a woman – is good at a thing doesn’t mean it/she should be allowed to play with the big dogs, aka MEN.
Let’s look at games. Take a game like, say, Dota 2. I’ve probably played with women only three times ever and every time it was fucking miserable. They whine and moan and talk about flowers. The whole time we’re laning the girls are literally looking at the little squirrels that run around the Dota map and going “awwww” and I’m like “YO. STACK AND PULL. AND HOW BOUT A DANG SAMMICH” but they didn’t listen, and when one of them mis-cast her ultimate she blamed her nails.
WHAT THE ACTUAL.
Which brings us to tournaments. If I was starting an eSports tournament there’s a few simple rules but the main one is “no women”. I’d probably call them “females” which kinda puts them in their place a bit more. “No females”. I think the word ‘women’ is too empowering because it has the word ‘men’ in it. ‘Females’ implies they are mere animals for breeding and I like it that way.
But then again ‘females’ is the word ‘males’ with the word ‘fe’ stuck on the front.
‘Fe’.
If you said that it sounds like someone who doesn’t give a shit.
“Hey let’s go to the shops.” “Fe.” “Fuck you then.”
The fact that ‘fe’ is the chemical symbol for the element iron is hilarious because it’s actually so IRONIC and it also involves iron. Iron is the toughest thing aside from adamantium (like Wolverine’s skeleton) I mean…..that’s the sort of revelation men have on a daily basis. Do women? No.
Would one of them come up with an idea that would change the meta? No. Would one of them say “team, I’m taking void offlane and getting and aghs”? if they did, in a word I’d be STUNLOCKED if one of them ever said that. I’d just stand there dumbfounded and wonder if this was a ventriloquist or something.
They cannot compete with men so why let them? I already know the result and so do you. It’s pointless. It’s like having an arm wrestling contest between a bear and a blueberry muffin. The muffin is fucked. The bear is gonna eat that muffin and then fuck its muffin girlfriend in the butt. Why subject me, the viewer, to that? (Although I can’t pretend I wouldn’t be curious about watching a bear fuck a muffin in the ass)
So yeah. Let’s keep women out of our man competitions or Manpetitions if you like. Dudetests. CHAPionships.

Well, that blog would have actually value, if anyone relevant/the majority of people would actually have a "no females" policy, but thats hardly the case, so I don't really what you are trying to express.
|
To be serious for a moment, there's nothing inherently wrong with segregating a competition along gender lines assuming the players prefer it.
Regardless of your opinions on gender equality etc, nobody is particularly interested in watching a 250 pound guy crush a bunch of ladies at shotput regardless of their world-class talent. (okay the novelty value is there but only once). I'm not a biologist or a doctor, I'm not an expert on the differences in mens and womens bodies, but it's clear that having two seperate classes separated along gender lines allows women to compete, which is something that they want.
Now, obviously dota is going to be much less affected by hormones etc but the point remains that if women wish to compete against other women they should be allowed to. And if they are allowed to, then you can't all of a sudden say that men can't have men-only tournaments too.
However, I don't think that very many women are terribly interested in competing only against women. The kind of person who is driven to compete and be the best won't settle for "the best woman" or "the best ladies team", they want to be the best, period. And that means playing the best competition, regardless of gender, geographical location, language, or anything else.
So basically I don't particularly have issues with gender-segregated competition simply because the players and the community at large are certain to drive towards competition that is open to all simply because that is the only way to have the best possible games.
Also because in general the best players break onto the scene not as a team but as individual players, and there's no reason for female players not to follow the same route of achieving individual skill, and then join a team of other skilled players. Which *could* be all-female but would require some very interesting explosion of heretofore unnoticed talented players to avoid including any men.

Well, uzi threw me out of a SC:BW tournament and the good ol' "Water Joe Girls" always beat up like 80% of their opponents (Counterstrike) when they were on LANs! So there are probably more people out there without a mancard then you would think, but maybe they keep their mouths shut, because of their shame!

In all serious when has been the last time you have won a game with a female on your team? Everytime I hear some female screech over the mic in a PUB game I know the game is already lost. Of course those female screeches may just be 12 year old boys.

She was from China and played on our servers (~300ms ping) with Barathrum and owned the other team! It was hilarious because she kept cheering whenever we got a kill, and she was the main initiator.

The lady time I played with a girl she was stacked with some emo-sounding tween guy who was a TerriPudge. She wasn't bad as CM, but it's hard to get duel damage when a pudge walks up to a creep wave, slaps a creep once, then goes into the trees for several minutes wondering why the other team isn't sticking around. I blame her for wussifying our pudge who otherwise would have been a great player clearly

On a serious note does anyone know what the highest solo queue MMR is for a woman? I've always found it interesting how uninterested most women are in trying to make video games a serious hobby even if they enjoy playing; while when it comes to real sports women make up some of the best athletes in the world.

Swimming, diving, most gymnastic sports, European football etc etc are all very competitive for both genders. I didn't mean to lie or imply the WNBA is ever going to have a sold out stadium, but if you compare real sports with "e-sports" it's still a massive difference. Women don't seem to enjoy training for video games (can't stay I blame them). Even the famous streamers who are female aren't very high rating and are mostly celebrated as entertainers.

Probably pretty high. There are enough players in Dota 2 that its not out of the question for at least 1 female player to be at 6k. Most of the women playing in the female dota 2 league are around 4k mmr +.

It's obvious that the muffins girlfriend would fuck the bear because the bear is more alpha than the muffin. Like when you see people on tv say 'ill beat you and steal your bitch'. And people have anal sex all the time, its not auto-rape.

Actually, he's contesting your assumption that the bears fucking of the muffin girlfriend in the butt is rape, when clearly it is sweet anal love occurring between consenting adults (or at least consenting bear and muffin). If taken in this light, it is clearly a punishment of the muffin boyfriend, not his muffin partner.
Also, I don't know if you are upset because Pyrion assumed that anal sex is punishment, which I think is a questionable assertion, or because you did, which is probably even worse. Anyways, it's satire, getting offended by the way it attacks offensive ideas is usually missing the point entirely. While the concepts used here, such as men using sex and control over women to assert their dominance over one another, are definitely offensive to feminist sensibilities, they are used to attack an idea that is much more insidious, that women cannot compete with men in a game that is not affected by the differences between the physical bodies of men and women (like how basketball or soccer might be), and, by extension, that women are intellectually inferior in some way to men. Besides, Pyrion is not condoning the ideas that he uses here, but in fact attacking them by illustrating how absurd they, and the things that they imply, are to someone thinking about it seriously.
I'm assuming that this is about the IeSL's decision to not allow women to compete against the field of men, or even in all the same games as men, giving the reason that they want to promote eSports as legitimate sports. Lol. There so many problems with this its not worth even going through them, but my favorite part of this is that they point to the fact that chess has separate male and female competitions to support them, where in fact chess has an "open to everyone" (called male by IeSL) competition and a female competition. Most women don't compete in the female pool, and in fact, the highest rated woman never has. I'm sure there's more controversy to it than what I've shown here within the chess community, but the fact that I was able to learn that by reading two Google search results demonstrates the integrity of the IeSL organization.
The last thing I want to say is that I think the Finish tournament should have allowed women to compete nonetheless. They claim to be against this kind of sexism in eSports, and yet they participate in it the same. Standing up for ideals concerning discrimination, even in examples that people may perceive as slight, requires some balls and the willingness to piss a few people off. Oh well, I suppose, it just seems like a missed opportunity.

Standing up for ideals concerning discrimination, even in examples that people may perceive as slight, requires some balls and the willingness to piss a few people off. Oh well, I suppose, it just seems like a missed opportunity. Its good someone here understands what this is... I'm probably more worried by some of these responses then what the actual tournament did in the first place.... o.O
I'm actually happy that you're worried about that, and that makes me less worried about these responses! :D

Women don't seem to enjoy training for video games (can't stay I blame them). Even the famous streamers who are female aren't very high rating and are mostly celebrated as entertainers.
Yeah, no, you have no clue.

Lol. The point is that women compete at many sports at an equally as high level as men do. In gaming they don't, not against each other, nor against men. There being no physical barrier to entry for female competitors, this is probably due to the social factors that effect female gamers.
In response to the original post, its seems pretty obvious to me that the way the community treats its female members is the root of the problem, and that this fiasco with the IeSL is just a result of this mentality.

Pretty sure I never want to date someone that plays dota semi regularly.
Sounds awful because when I feed she'll rage at me.

"you play like a girl" is sexist. as well as finding shame in losing to a girl. That's my point and I stand for it. If you don't see it, we can agree to disagree...

this blog is from flax, so i do not know if he is srs or just trolling. :/

Trolling but I try to adress the essence: Well, I would prefer to discuss squirrels on the map instead of trying to communicate with russians who not only fail to use their heros but also start to feed after they died two times.
However it's really hard to say if gender separated leagues are really required on a pro level. One example esports can learn from is I guess Scarlett in SC2. She was on the same level as the best male players and had some really entertaining games. Thus I wouldn't mind to see some female players or even teams in dota 2.

I'd prefer chess approach: there's unisex category and female category as long as it is needed.

Jesus....
P.Flax, great post. Funny stuff.
Dr. Dumptruck, I find your posting interesting. I've thought many of the same things you do. We do see more and more women, however slowly, beginning to attempt training seriously in a variety of games and actually put up a good fight (MsSpyte coming to the top of my head). Perhaps as time goes on the numbers will level out a bit. I've always enjoyed esports for the simple notion of equality they offer - I have very little interest in seeing something like men vs women boxing any more than I want to see a football team with 350-pound+ linemen going up against a female football team. Yet, games like Starcraft and Dota offer even playing-fields; inclusion abounds.

Well, I am sorry but it's just not a good read.
I can see the troll from a mile, but it's just not funny or interesting. Is there a point trying to be made here? It's lost between the rather poorly worded sentences and the lack of focus.

Went for too many cheap laughs, not your best work. Like the squirrels part had a lot of potential (because it's true), but it was wasted for a generic make me a sandwich punchline.
