4 days ago i bought a bunch of apples and bananas to my apartment.
2 days ago i slapped 20+ fruit flies out of existence in my washroom.
i left the house and came back and more showed up all over my place, near the sink, in the washroom. i poured out cereal and found 2 of them. i go use the soap bar and they're fornicating. they seem to like the mirror too
today i'm going to war. i've put a bunch of jam and an apple core in a cup and put cellophane over it, then poked a bunch of holes. hopefully they go in and die slowly and painfully. tomorrow i'm going to buy fly traps. if that doesn't work, i might consider a flamethrower. there's like 100 of them.
i hate flies so much...

Insect Extermination 101
Fun fact about Fruit flies: They are total Boozers. Well, they like the smell of it. They know where there is alcohol there is yeast, which is the prefered snack for there larvae.
Pro Tip: Pour some hard alcohol (Vodka, Rum, Gin... anythin around 20 - 40% will do) in a wide glass. Preferably a red wine glass. Let it sit by the flies for a day. Laugh about flies drowning in booz.
Next time: How to build ypur very own Fly-Shot with an rubber glove and some salt.

get some spiders and ants into your apartment. They're fruit fly's natural enemies.

If you google you will quickly find the apple cider vinegar solution, which works pretty well.

A friend of mine used to use his vacuum cleaner to fight them. I swear that guy had the fastest fruit flies I've ever seen by the end of summer.

The idea that a fruit fly would permanently increase its speed in response to the threat of a vacuum cleaner is just so amusing to me
Anyway I was just about to suggest a vacuum cleaner. That is what I did when I had a fruit fly infestation in my room. The problem with traps is that they're localized in one area; fruit flies can get anywhere and may never come into proximity of the trap. Vacuum cleaners are fast, they're thorough, and they're effective.
Just take a vacuum cleaner, take off all the attachments so that its just a narrow tube, and then go through all the corners and crevices in your room (or wherever you have the problem). The good thing about fruit flies is that they're kind of slow, so if you see one running away you can still follow the fly and suck him back in .
I used a fairly powerful central vacuum, I'm not sure how one of those small portable ones would work. But I figure it would be powerful enough; I mean its just a fruit fly after all!
edit: Side benefit is you have a nice clean room after that too.

update: i drink 3/4 of my honest tea bottle then put a slice of bread in it, then made a funnel out of post-its. it seems to have caught most of them, i spent 3 hours last night watching it and urging them to go into it. i've put the lid back on the bottle, when i get home i'm going to shake the bottle a bit to fuck with them.
i'm working in the bay area for the summer, don't have all my usual tools here

Make sure you put a drop of soap in them. The soap breaks the water tension so they fall in. I also varied my lighting a bunch because some insisted on staying on the mirror. Thankfully they're all gone now though I AM FREEEEEEE

It's solid soap ? or liquid soap ?
And it's just apple cider vinegar and soap ? Or did you add something else ?

liquid dishwashing soap, very small drop of it, just that and apple cider vinegar
it can be even more effective if you make a funnel or cellophane trap of some sort so they can't leave the cup so easily, but just having it open like in that picture was pretty good, i had one in the washroom and one in the kitchen sink and they attracted a bunch over the weekend

Ok thx Blisse

Update. This method doesn't work for me so i tried ... stuff.
Orange juice, a drop of liquid soap didn't do the trick. My wife added a spoon of honey. There's 6kills so far. I guess this thing will frag even more.
