I don't know how many of you still dream or remember your dreams, I am here to share some of the goods and bads as a person who dreams every day.
I have had some incredibly amazing dreams: me travelling in a world where the sky is dark but cracked like an egg shell, leaking in bright white lights. A thunder storm above a volcano while I try to run through everything to save my little sister in the town nearby. No movies can ever replace that surreal feeling.
I had one which was about a zombie outbreak in my primary school, which I managed to Save and Load for next night's dream since it was that awesome and intense.
Then there was one where my friend introduced me to a cathedral that he designed. What's most unique about the cathedral is that in front of all the cathedral glass, there lies a stand which has a dark, sparkling material that constantly changes its shape just floating on top of it.
I had a dream in a postapocalyptic setting, very simliar to The last of Us. And I was all alone in the world, everything was peaceful and beautiful in its way and i dived into the sea from a half broken highway.
Occasionally I have the power to control myself, "focus on that little detail" I would tell myself and I would slow down my dream and look at some small details that the world is presented to me. The cathedral dream for example, I just staring at that strangely beautiful material for almost the whole dream.
I think for those who remember the dreams, you can understand what I am talking about. You are living a second life, see things that isn't possible in this world, you can almost "feel" it. And despite these are all just a dream, the experience you earned in these dreams are not just useless or meaningless.
I often have night terrors, especially when I was in primary school, most likely caused by the immense pressure. I taught myself how to wake up when I feel the dream is going wrong. Remember that movie, "Freddy"? It's similar. I got so used to nightmares that I would shout to myself "get up before things get worse" when I feel something is off. How exactly do I determine the dream is not right? I can feel the world is darkening, the people are not acting "normally" as I would expect them to since it's my dream.
In times of great pressure/mental stress, sometimes I have some dreams that followed me to the real world. there was once I had a nightmare of having a huge pack of unknown flies attacking me, I woke up and waved my arms in the air as I can still see them chasing after me. Just not too long ago, I dreamt of getting shot in the chest. I woke up with a strangely slow beating aching heart. I had dreams where I was naked, and walked on stairs in a shopping centre but it was never ending. I had dreams where I died, usually jumping off from a long staircase, or slipping into the train tracks. I even had a "out of body experience" and saw myself sleeping in the bed, it was super freaky.
Then there are dreams that try to help me cope with the harsh reality. I remember having a dream just after my break up with my ex, sweet and just like a dream, it was short but too perfect. There was a less serious one (but I treated it very seriously at that time). I was super into playstation and one night I dreamt of my dad giving me a playstation and I kept it next to my pillow just so I can see it when I wake up. Then next morning when I woke up, it just wasn't there. then I found out everything was just a dream.
Sometimes when my dad would "talk" to me, and since I don't argue back, I would just take on the negativity. And that one night, I dreamt that I finally stood up and shouted back at my dad, and I actually did shout and woke myself up with myself tearing up and heart beating so hard that my whole body was shaking.
But what's the worst type of dream? It's the ones that make you feel guilty next morning and questions your situation. Occasionally I would dream about my ex despite having a good relationship with my GF and rarely think about my ex. This dream will make me asking myself, have I really moved on? Maybe I don't love my GF as much as I think? Maybe deep inside, she will always be there and I can never ever move on as cleanly as I think I can? The scariest part is you don't really control your dream. I don't remember much about what it was like to be with my EX, all I remember was that i was happy and the dream recreates that, you don't really do anything with her, you just are happy to be with her.
I have thought long and hard about whether I like being a person who dream very often or not and still, today I don't have an answer. All I can say is, Dream is a big part of my life and for now, I hope it will continue to be so.

All I can say is, Dream is a big part of my life and for now, I hope it will continue to be so. sounds like you have quite the dreams lol. It would help your dream recall a lot if you can be more descriptive in your details when you write them down. Dreams are quite something else though. In some cases, a dream can reflect your current mindset while in others, it's out of left field and I wouldn't bother questioning why you dreamt of something. All you need to do is ask yourself if you are satisfied in your current situation and if you are, don't worry about it. I myself am also a dreamer although my erratic sleep pattern has made it harder to remember my dreams these days.
In terms of the bolded comment, seems like you had a lucid dream although I would have to question if you knew you were dreaming when you took control of the dream. If you knew then it was a lucid dream otherwise not being aware of that fact says otherwise. I think you should continue to dream because the amount of stuff that you can learn is immense especially if you can get more lucid dreams.
I'll leave you with a lucid dream that I had several years back. I still remember it to this very day which says a lot. If you have questions or want to discuss dreams, feel free to post here or pm me: + Show Spoiler + Exploring: I just finished talking to someone who was pretty mean to me. I think I climbed some stairs and was now standing on the roof. I was still thinking how mean she was and remembered how she flicked my head with her finger. Then I began to think why I was standing in the middle of a circular metal cage. I stepped out of it and tripped which caused me to lose my balance and move closer to the edge at which point I fell over. I could feel the air and see the ground coming up rapidly. I was pretty afraid of what will happen when I hit the ground. At this point, I felt an odd sensation take over and I was suddenly lucid. It must have been due to fear. I slowed down my fall so that I just touched the ground gently and walked away. My lucidity wasn't as strong as I would have liked. The dream skips and I'm with my family walking through a deserted park around evening time during the autumn season. I was still lucid but I following the flow of the dream. I saw a couple of gray or black skinny trees here and there. Between these trees, there was a small puddle which was filled with water. I sat near the puddle in the lotus position. As soon as I took the position, a mid-sized gray bird with a black patch running from it's head to halfway of it's back appeared and landed on my hands. I could feel his claws on my hands. Excited, I tried to get my sisters attention but a flock of birds, possibly 7 or so flew by and he ended up leaving my hand after they passed. We continued walking through the park and encountered a play structure. It's metallic in color and stood pretty tall. To reach the slide, one would have to climb the large steps, each around 75cm high and the steps are open, as in there is no metal facing your foot when you step on it. I thought it was interesting but continued walking and saw another play structure. Alas, at this point, my alarm started ringing and my vision went dark. I could feel myself waking up and eventually woke up.

Thanks Bigfan for sharing :D I wish I could have more control over myself in my dreams because yours sound awesome.
It's interesting to read yours because in my dream, the world is either extremely big (I am more of a third person overviewing the whole world) or so small that the size of the world is only where I can capable seeing. but yours have structures that you can explore and walk around.
The best I can do is usually tell myself to put more attention over something beautiful. I think the trigger point is to have that beautiful thing which intrigues me so much that I would sort of have the conscience to tell myself to look closer. So I am not too sure if i am aware of myself is dreaming or not, i just want to look at it and pay more attention to it. Maybe that's why I rarely have much control over my actions in the dream.
Hope you get some more nice dreams in future :D

Hope you get some more nice dreams in future :D np, I have a lot more where that came from if you want other dreams to read lol. I've actually only ever managed to have several LDs before and they all had different levels of control and consciousness to them so it's not a daily routine or anything. Having said that, there are quite a number of different techniques that can help you get a LD and with practice, you can eventually get them pretty frequently and do some crazy amazing stuff.
Actually, a decent portion of my dreams are third person but I still have some first person ones as well. I think that specific dream was a mix of the two although it was far enough back that I can't really remember which it was more off. I don't really understand why I dream in third person. I'm sure there must be a reason for it lol. I'm pretty sure you can do a lot more than just tell yourself to put more attention.
I only asked if you were aware because that's the general definition of a LD. If you weren't, well, it probably wasn't one but you can still have dreams where you have control and such. Thanks, I've had a couple of really bizzare ones lately but nothing like my older ones Here's to both of us having fantastic lucid dreams :D

I'll just leave this here if anyone is interested, wrote it a while back: Lucid Dream Guide

I also have a 100% recall rate, just like OP, i.e. every night there is at least part of a dream that I can recall in the morning. A lot of the dreams tend to be incredibly good and interesting, ranging from just plain fascinating to very powerful emotional experiences that can have me wake up with tears in my eyes (sometimes of joy, sometimes of sorrow). Some lucid ones there too, which are always a great deal of fun. But there's a whole breadth of not quite earth shattering experiences that have accumulated over the decades - a lot of them OP already mentioned, so I'd be repeating myself. And the final large chunk is comprised of dreams that lean a bit to the boring or at least unspectacular side - well, at least to someone who's been dreaming like that for years. You get used to certain recurring themes and start to perceive patterns, which takes out the novelty out of those things.
I used to experiment widely with dream phenomena a good 7 years ago (dear god how time flies), applying all kinds of fancy techniques and therelike, which resulted in quite interesting times, including lots of lucid dreams, OOBEs (which are just fancy dreams) and all sorts of unique or strange ones that I remember to this day. Although my focus has shifted and I now tend to just take them as they are, I'm still very grateful for my recall rate, which opens up a large and interesting range of experiences that would be otherwise inaccessible.
All you need to do is ask yourself if you are satisfied in your current situation and if you are, don't worry about it. There is more to the good life than being satisfied with your current situation. You must excuse me for pointing this out at every occasion that I get, but the equation of well-being with something 'inner' or mental is one of those things that we all very uncritically take for granted, partially due to certain modern intellectual currents that are very 'in' nowadays, partially also due to the way our language works, but one that is nonetheless deeply problematic. If dreams poke OP to question himself or his situation, regardless of his satisfaction with it, then this is good - the unexamined life is not worth living, after all.

i sometimes dream of music that is so good that it makes me cry.
|
i just had a dream about jamie foxx saying a good bye speech and holding up a bunch of random trophies that obviously mean something and thanking a bunch of people and saying his good bye's because he was going to cambodia.
I just watched The Kingdom that starred jamie foxx in it.
And I think it was earlier today that I learned that bradd pitt and angelina jolie had a house in cambodia because it was their goal to help make cambodia a better nation

Dreamt last night I had a cold/flu or something and my nose was stuffed up. It was fucking awful. I'm not even sick and my nose is fine, but I really had trouble breathing in that dream. I wonder if I smothered myself or something in my blankets while I was sleeping.
I used to have more fantastical, vivid dreams that I'd remember the day after, but these days I mostly just pass out.

If OP was having constant dreams of his previous gf for a long period of time then I think he would need to examine the situation more but he shouldn't get worried by a single dream. ya, examination is usually good (within reason).

Yeah I agree, one can take it too far and end up overthinking things, which isn't a good thing.

OMG, some of the lucid dreams I've had...
Maybe the time Harry Potter and his crew got all fucked up and I adventured with Hermione through the Titanic, underneath the mantle of the Earth, and straight to Hogwarts to stop Dumbledore from assassinating Lord Voldemort. It's really, really faint right now, but it was basically a whole fucking epic HP adventure with all the characters fucked up.
Hermione betrayed me. Somewhere along the line Ron got a machine gun. Dumbledore sat at the kid's table all alone. Don't even get me started about Malfoy.
Now, as for my second favorite, I was a no name soldier in a pseudo-fantastic reality in which I lived out my next 40 years in a war fraught, desolate setting rife with danger and political intrigue. Again, it's been a long time and it's all faint now, but many of the details were incredible - the fact that I was living through 40 years included .

Here is some wisdom I found out the hard way regarding dreams, they sometimes can be a sign of things to come, though you might not realize it at the time, and you might not understand them at first. Last year in late May I had a dream that I roughly interpreted as my best friend was going to distance himself from me and that I need to be extremely careful or I risk being completely alone.
Well, I found out in July or so that he was going to leave for the Netherlands for good, as in, only come back for visits once or twice per year. I took it really hard since we've been close as brothers since high school. He left for good in August, I managed to stabilize a bit, but then circumstances kind of resulted in me spending Christmas and New Year's with just my family, all my friends kind of just forgot about me, its been a long, long time since I've seen any of them, I sort of am pissed off and I don't want to call anyone or talk to anyone either so, yeah.
That was the first time I ever had a dream that came true, and it took a long, long time for all of it to come true, and the scary part is, it feels like I was powerless to do anything about it... Back then I googled and found this site http://www.dreammoods.com/ where I pieced together the elements that indicated what would happen, try it out.
I've had dreams like yours, when I'm adventuring and I see unimaginable things and feel incredible things, I've had frightening dreams that woke me up in cold sweats and I've had lustful ones that made me wish I had never woken up. I don't dream as much right now, it seems to come and go, but I enjoy it greatly, I feel like its indeed the continuation of my life in another realm. I do my best to remember them and I can usually recall them once I wake up, lately I've started writing them down.
My advice, enjoy them, but don't always treat them lightly, you never know when somehow, some way, they can be an omen of things to come.

dreams dont predict the future lol.
dreams are the by-product of your brain strengthening/organizing the neural networks that have developed throughout your day to day life. nothing more nothing less.
|
oh yeah if you have a nightmare, its a good idea to train yourself to turn the head or your entire body to a different side when you wake up for a short time, else the chance is very high that the nightmare continues. The turning changes blood flow or something and prevents dreams picking just right back up.
I frequently dream about lighting strikes, and had to train myself to do it else they would haunt me in the next dream as well.
I just remembered, even this night i woke up from a lighting strike dream wherte there was a storm, i felt save in my house, then the wind got really strong and BOOOOOM it got so intense that the windows broke and the whole room filled with wind and then the lighting came.
Oh well, still better than that dude that got hit 7 times by lighting in RL.

I beg to differ, but you've never had one of those dreams so you wouldn't know, couldn't believe it myself either.
Also one of the best things you can do is train yourself to wake up if you are having a nightmare. I somehow learned how to do it because I has some really nasty ones 3-4 years ago, now whenever I get into one I absolutely can't stand I just shake myself out of it. The only downside is that, the process of waking up from a nightmare often feels painful for me, its hard to describe how though, its almost like your consciousness is being ripped apart.
Thankful I also "enjoy" most nightmares now a days, it takes a lot to force me to wake up or to scare me enough that I wake in a cold sweat.

Wow guys thanks for sharing. Just woke up and bam, replies :D That Harry potter dream made me laugh so hard lolol
Just reminded me that in one case, I made a joke so funny that I woke myself up laughing lol. Shame I don't remember what joke it was lol
I think dream can sometimes show glimpse of future since it is a by product of your subscious and you might have received hints and events that led to the formation of that dream.
Hopefully mine won't though haha it will screw up my life horribly :p

trust me, it's best not to know. Logic doesn't exactly work in dreams lol so it's quite possible that the joke isn't funny at all but due to the previous mentioned point, it was funny to you in your dream state. I've had this happen before lol.
