i honestly dont understand why im so bad. can anyone link me to a game guide or basic rules of playing, because its freaking me out. HONESTLY, I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY TRUMP 7-0 AND I 0-3 TWICE, PLEASE HELP

i watched 50 hours of trump, have an above average IQ, played CCGs very casually before, screamed at every TB video, and am generally confident that i play correct, and that i always notice my basic mistakes such missing knife juggler dmg on hero.

i know to get enough 2s and 3s and endgame, a little carddraw, always mulligan for a turn 2.

i know to drop a strong turn minion when possible eg a 4 on turn 4 instead of two 2s, and to have a next turn play eg when i use coin. i love slamming down a 4 yeti, 5 venture, 6 bolder. i know about card advantage , however i feel i often lose to card draw

i always kill opponent minions , especially paladin. maybe i lose out on player dmg too much by doing this?? i tend to lose a lot when people hit me instead of my minions, i think its because i play "rounded" drafts instead of rush or control???

a flaw might be that i dont tend to pick any silence type cards?? ?? i go minion heavy but do pick spells. basically i do what i think trump wud do when drafting and playing!! i tend not to pick "combo"/utility cards and instead draft strong reliable minions, eg a 3-2 over a 1-3 or not-so-good spell.

my arenas have been like

1-3
4-3
4-3
0-3 (with amazing deck i thought????)
2-3

i will play 1-2 more arenas but if i cant begin to understand why im so bad im going to quit. because i just cant see it and its scaring me. 0-3 arena when i thought i was strong? i need help or some advice or direction, or im missing an important rule (such as when i realised a playing a 4drop usually beats 2 2drops...????)

thanks

ps i am 14 in constructed, might post my deck in a min

my friend just told me that in ANY matchup i have to decide if im going to rushdown my opponent OR control him.

i always draft a middleground deck and always try to control the board. i need to reassess whether i should be controlling someone or instead rush him myself? (doesnt trump ALWAYS control instead of beating down tho??)

What about posting your arena drafting with all three choices and the eventual pick you've made? Would help to understand how you're actually drafting, because a lot obviously comes down to the drafting phase.

Sometimes you're unlucky and don't get to pick incredibly useful cards (i.e. truesilver, consecrate in paladin decks), or you value certain minions too highly, simply because other players value them highly in most situations.

Im around rank 7-9 in constructed, and have gone 12 wins in Arena,

To be honest though you didn't really give us much information, all your post really says is "Im frustrated and i'm losing". Rather than thinking you should be winning, think of ways you can improve. When you lose try to think of the critical play/s that you or your opponent made that caused you to lose. Sometimes it is a mistake you made, or a mistake of omission by not playing around some card your opponent had, or sometimes you just lose. (Which can mean you either got unlucky, needed different cards in your deck, or something else.)

Unfortunately I can't really give you very specific advice without a better example, like if you wanted to take a screenshot of a scenario, or help with an Arena deck/picks I wouldn't mind trying to help.

ffgen we need to see what your options were at each pick. just write down all 3 and which you picked for each pick. the final result isn't important on its own since we don't know what your other options were. it sounds like you won't have obviously bad curve or anything we can see without seeing what the other choices were for each card.

You might want to post a video to get better at Arena. I usually go even too, only yesterday going 7-3 and today 3-3 with a 5-3 the day before that. I've had just as many 2-3s and the like.

I think Arena is just not a good place to try to build deck synergy. People like Trump just get cards that trade well without other cards like mad bomber.

Trump does seem to control most often but sometimes to a fault. Eg he played against a druid that he admitted probably had a better late game mana curve, tried to control, and lost.

The next game he just went aggro.

I know that I'm bad at the game, I make mistakes in the game all the time and thus my arena runs are usually between 5-8 wins. I've never had 12 wins.

When I first started the game I went 1-3, 0-3 almost every run too, but then it gets better as you keep playing. I think my drafting choices have improved over time. Don't get discouraged!

The problem with this deck is that it isn't well suited for mage playstyles. Mage's strength is in her ability to burn an opponent down; this deck doesn't really do that.

It would be fantastic arena deck, but it's too slow and not optimized for constructed. Constructed is much faster because decks are more streamlined, with specific purposes. Mages burn, warriors control with weapons, priests heal, etc. You have hyper aggressive decks, control decks, and midrange control decks.

Your deck is theoretically very good because it can generate good trades with high value cards, but in practice, you will find it too slow vs. aggro that can pump out units faster, and not aggressive enough against control decks. It's a midrange deck without enough flexibility.

If you want to keep playing mage, you probably need to swap to aggro with burn.

Good examples are the mage decks in these lists:
http://i.imgur.com/J72TZdP.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/c4DCdVP.jpg

As you can see, they are extremely fast. A lot of 1 drops, buff minions, and plenty of burn to finish off. There are variations that run ice blocks and frost spells. No sen jins, no chillwind yetis that don't provide an instant board presence. Instead, buff minions like dark iron dwarf are favored because they can immediately change the board.

Alternatively, you have a lot of the cards that could make a strong midrange rogue deck. This is my preference, as I find that midrange control rogue decks is a bit more direct and a little bit more like an arena playstyle.

http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/monk/hearthstone/yearinreview2013/KithrosRogue_150.png

The Kithros rogue is the ancestor of today's rogues decks.

Today's version will generally favor harvest golems over the gnomish inventors, a sylvanas instead of a drake, and a number of other changes, like adding assassinate/tink master/black knight. Usually a SSC will be dropped for something like fan of knives for fighting warlocks. Depending on how aggro the deck is, argent squires and leeroy can be added for a more aggressive deck, while a more control one uses ragnoros. Both types of decks have done well in recent tournaments if you check the managrind winning decks.

You can see examples of aggressive rogue decks in the above lists as well.

This is my rogue deck. As this is focused on board control, ragnoros is a natural finisher.

As for arena, I'm not sure what to really say. If you watch trump or kripp, try to make decisions along with them, and see whether they agree. Try speaking out loud as to why you make certain decisions. I think drafting is pretty straightforward; most people make pretty decent decks IMO, and you can do well even with seemingly suboptimal ones. And remember, everyone fucks up sometimes.

I think there are 3 things that are particularly important during gameplay.
1. Use cards efficiently (easier said than done)
2. Mind AOE's and other potential cards
3. Clear the board

The devil of course, is in the details. Number two seems obvious, but people do seem to forget a lot. Playing around the different classes removal cards are extremely important. Sometimes it's as obvious as turn 6 don't play too much stuff against a mage (and even then, sometimes you just do it anyway). If you have a big minion, you might want to try "ramping" up with some smaller ones to try to pressure them to use their hard removals. Think playing boulderfist ogre before an illidan stormrage.

Clearing the board is also something subtle. Generally, you want to go for face if the trade is inefficient, and trade otherwise. However, it's important to think about what the enemy could do with their buffed minion; if they blessing of kings, how fucked are you? If he has bloodlust in his hand how badly do those totems kick your ass?

Again, I think most of this stuff is obvious when we say it, but executing can be a whole different story.

thankyou so much. i just posted this in other thread.

i avoided looking at other decks until now coz i thought you're just menna make a strong curve, trade well and win

well at least i am like lv35 mage i guess lol

i will look at control decks because i think thats more my style

your other comm2ents are things i suspected were what make the difference between good player and not, so its great to hear you confirm

it's worth noting a lot the whole "immediately change board" thing. d iron DWF is a 6/4 of stats but 2/0 of that you can use immediately. your goal is to be the guy attacking each turn while your opppknent just plays a dude and csng attack yet..you pick the battles

this is also why direct damage, deadly poison, weapons are good.. you want to choose who fights what.

with. mage your class minions don't got much going on but you got great spells and frrzes. if you're not running 30+ damzge of spells maybe pick a diff race that does what you want better.

I never get venture co to work properly. Perhaps remove that.

This is personal opinion but if you can't get a deck with synergy you should probably get a deck with 1 of each. It lets you deal with situations where you need dark iron dwarf sometimes and defender of argus sometimes without you sitting on two defenders of argus and crying because you need 2 attack to break their taunt.

Good job, and I definitely agree with Kingsky. Don't take this shit too seriously.

I think the people playing the game right are not necessarily the ones that go 12-0 in arena, but rather the ones that have some fun with it.

I wouldn't take it too seriously. This is really just a crap card game that's very dependent on your willingness to PAY to win. If you don't want to pay $40 for multiple decks with a much higher chance at useful epics, then you get to struggle with the rest of us peasants in 2-3 year long trenches. That's just how it is bro.

I'm winning about 50% of time, the majority of my losses are from someone doing more than 15 points of damage to my main character in a single turn, while breaking through multiple taunts. I'm lucky if I make through 6 rounds with any given character, but I haven't spent a red cent yet, and I never will. That's just me and I'm happy to play this game occasionally, but I'll never advertise this as a good game just because of the extreme slant towards p2w.
