Hey there. Has anyone road-tripped from Rochester to Michigan? I am scheduling work interviews and was wondering if it was possible to spend a full day at Rochester, NY and then be able to start my next day in Michigan.
Since traveling by air is prone to delays, I thought the best way would be to do a one-way car rental and start driving from Rochester 4pm on a Monday, and hopefully arrive at a hotel in Detroit, sleep, and be ready for another day.
I'm requesting help from you guys because I know there are a lot of extenuating factors that could happen, which I cannot foresee from a simple Google Maps. It seems the quickest path is 5 hours through Canada, but with two border crossings, maybe someone could tell me what could go wrong.
Thank you, TL

you could try getting an enchanced lisence. Basically that lets you cross the canadian border free of hassle

What could go wrong? You're suspected of being a Russian mob lord and arrested and held indefinitely trying to cross the border.
All joking aside, I've gone through Canada to Detroit when I was younger coming from WNY, and it's a decent trip. You'll be fine with the right ID and lots of stamina. Take into account what bridge you'll be crossing in Niagra and what time of day that will be. Check traffic patterns (I'm sure there's a way to do so online) on the bridges close to rush hours etc. Have a plan, and watch out for those Canadian drivers! Oh, the Detroit ones are crazy, too!

As a MI resident, most people will tell you that the time you save "on the road" by cutting through Canada ends up breaking even after you factor in time spent cross the border(s). You can get lucky, and some methods help over others, but depending on when you're travelling you never know. You may want to poll more folks on this one though; I haven't personally tried crossing the border since I got my enhanced license, nor do I know if the people I've heard these stories from had one or not.
Making the drive through the states is really easy, albeit toll road heavy. Straight shot pretty much. I haven't driven too far toward the east coast myself but have family and friends that have numerous times.
