This morning I thought I would be experiencing yet another fruitless interview at a place I really wanted to work but never thought I could. Tomorrow morning I will be waking up for my first day of work with an awesome team of engineers at a really cool company. I'm making enough money to more than comfortably support myself in the bay area, pay off my student loans, and have a bit to spare (will be going to my brother).
Yay for life! Why do things always seem to work out in the end? I was so close to losing it, hadn't slept properly in weeks, and now my career is 2 years ahead of schedule
It's really weird, for the first time in my life I'm not relying on anyone financially. I'm not relying on family or grants or scholarships to get by, what will I do with all this responsibility, I'm not sure I have enough hands to carry it all.

What exactly are you being forced to quit? I don't totally understand your situation from what you put in the OP.
It's nice that things are working out well, and I'm sure you feel on top of the world, but don't forget that things don't always work out, and you have to be diligent even after being offered the position, or you could end up back at square one!
By the way how did you get your finances and calculations in order to quickly after being offered the position? Either you are very good at that or did a very cursory analysis and might be in for a surprise.

Quiting school might not be a good idea if you were almost ready to get a degree, but might be fine if you were just starting out.
@micronesia If you know how much your expenses are before hand you can tell pretty quickly if you will make enough or not. If he didn't take care adding up his expenses though he might be pretty surprised. Money always seems to go faster than I think it will ;(
Good luck and hopefully it works out ^_^

Wasn't exactly forced to quit, I was doing okay, but still had four semesters left and it wouldn't have increased my value to employers, just made me qualified for a broader range of jobs. I definitely did my homework on my financials so it made salary negotiations simple. The offer standing is in writing and even after taxes will still be more than double what I spent last year.

I realized school wasn't taking me the direction I wanted a couple of months ago and since then I've been in a kind of limbo, not really knowing which direction to go. Now I feel I have the chance to have a life, maybe I'll finally ask out one of the cute girls that I climb with.

You had prior experience that helped you land the job? I would assume they would rather hire someone with a degree instead of someone 4 semesters away from one....but what do I know...I don't have a job
Also, what do you mean you almost lost it? Did you wake up late or miss/lose something? Simply curious.

See how long your credits last for, and if taking a course resets the times, never know if you want to finish!

My degree would have been a BASc in Animation and Visual Effects, whereas the job and my area of expertise is front-end engineering.

Congratulations! Just make sure you stay on top of things and get a plan B in case things don't work out.
Good luck with that date.
